I know this is volnation, but can we chill with the over reactiion?

We'll finish around 54 - 55, for season.
Would have to beat a high rpi team to get that much jump.
Not saying we can't dance.
Just won't break 50.

Not trying to start something but I'll go with RPIforecast projections which have proven to be very accurate. A neutral site game counts more than home game so beating scrub team and then a Bama/UF/ UK/ OLE MISS would bump us much more than 5 spots.

Need to look at the teams in front of us.
Not many lame dogs.
Need a lot of help to break in.

Being honest, I enjoy most of the silly posts/threads we see after losses. Disappointed I haven't seen more Pearl stuff after this loss.

I like how the people that don't want the realistic people to "overreact" talk about winning the next two like it's a given. We just lost to a HORRIBLE team for the second time in three weeks. You guys know that Mizzou is actually good at basketball, right? So yeah, let's just go win the next two. And while we're at it, let's scrimmage against Indiana and Michigan State and Gonzaga and Miami and St Louis and let's go ahead and beat them too. Just because we can.

What a joke.

No one is acting like it's going to be easy. But if we're going to get in, these are things that will have to happen. That's why we're acting like it's given, when of course it isn't.

Instead of shouting oh my god the seasons over, NIT bound, we couldn't afford to lose...can you try and approach things in an educated manner...

Well, probably not, this being VN and all.

I'm afraid I don't have a spreadsheet going that continually recalculates RPI and whatnot. I think what deflated me today was that I was hoping that the team would keep the new style and attitude (and wins) going, and seeing the Georgia game pretty well popped that bubble.

Even though I knew it was probably a bubble.

(I'm an optimist by nature, which for many posters here is verboten. But hope springs eternal, and all.)

Teams will lose, it happens, and not all those teams will play good teams.

Like I said RPIforecast has proven to be spot on, they say win the next 2 and then 2 in the SECT will get us into the 40s, I'll go with them.

You've conceded that win the next 2 we're 55ish. Well win neutral site game puts us at probably 53, then win neutral over UF/UK/BAMA/OM and that'll give us more than a 3 spot bump.

If it happens, and I'm sure we both hope it does, we can revisit this.

It will be an extremely tough hill to climb to make the tournament at this point. Martin coached teams have a 45% winning percentage on the road and on neutral courts. With only one more home game left for the season, which is against a very good team that will cause us a lot of problems, I just don't see it happening.

Tennessee's RPI was 53 prior to the game, how far did this bad loss drop us? 2 spots, we are now 55. Our RPI is ahead of Villanova, UMASS, Virgina and Baylor all teams also on the bubble.

If Tennessee wins the next 2 they go into the SECT with a RPI around 52. The good news now is they won't get a double bye, so their first game is very winnable and on a neutral site will still give a RPI boost. You win 2 in the SECT to be 21-12 the RPI is around 45 and this team is likely dancing.

Point is, nobody knows for sure, but to sit here and freak out and declare us NIT bound, or say we have to win the SECT to have a chance is simply ridiculous and uneducated.

Here is some educational info: UT lost a game it should have won and made things a lot worse for themselves.

It was unlikely to happen in the first place. It's a miracle that we went on a mini run to have a chance. We are not a tournament team. We can't win on the road because we have zero mental toughness and for whatever reason forgot how to play defense.

Golden and Stokes and the rest of the team brought back the team from the rest of the season to show how horrible we are on the road.

It's Volnation's fault for jumping the gun and thinking a middle of the pack SEC team was worthy of an at large bid. Sure if we beat Mizzou and make a good run in the tourney we could have a chance, but with the way we played today, we would probably lose to Auburn too.

We let their god awful bench score 30 points!!! if it wasn't for Jordan playing the greatest game of his career this would have been an absolute slaughter to a TERRIBLE georgia team.

If using rpiforecast:
20-12 is 59
21-12 is 48 but probability is 9%.
They predict 19-12. Unless I got cross eyed. Possible at this hour.
Spot on?

I agree with everything you said, it was a rational post. I'm in no way saying we will win the next 4, I'm saying if we do we can get a bid, so declaring the season over is simply premature.

Now people can choose to get behind the team and root for a 4 game win streak, or they can say its not likely. Point being, the numbers say Tennessee definitely has a chance to still get in.

So in other words me saying win the last 2 and 2 in the SECT (which make us 21-12) would get us into the 40s was likely accurate?

that won't get us in the tourney...there will be some surprise automatic bids and will likely put 2 or 3 bubble teams out...you need to be a bit inside the bubble to feel safe

In our defense, it's hard not to get excited after a 6 game win streak. Just saying.

Wait, you can read the future?

In that case...

Who is my future wife? How much money will I make? Will I have a big house? Will my Vikings ever win a Super Bowl? Will Butch Jones win a National Championship?
