I Never Bet on Sports but.......

I feel like UT is clearly the better team and I want to do what a lot of other fellow members said and bet heavy on our Vols. It's a little concerning tho looking at many of the "experts" picks and pretty much all of them so far are saying take the Aggies and are saying they feel the Aggies won't just cover the spread, but will win outright. All I know is they better be wrong GBO!

The better team talent wise doesn't always win.

I understand that in many ways, this is one of the most unknown games because there is so little information available compared to after a few games. That said, I do feel like there will be some mistakes early on that Ustate may capitalize and so it will be fairly close at the half with either us or them up by 3. In the third quarter though, UT is just far far far more talented in the secondary and we will begin to pull away by a long shot with the end result of us up at least 14.

This is as about a safe a bet as I could make in sports actually - and frankly, I would always rather bet my own team than one I dont know anything about. As a former FX trader, you have to know your subject but keep emotional distance

Week 1 games are tough bets, you never know how kids will react once the lights come on and its game time...that being said, I got my 4 team parlay ready

I had to like this from personal experience. Last year, I won the lottery. The cash payout was 220 million dollars. I wasn't happy. How could I survive on 220 million without a job the rest of my life?

So I did what any reasonable person would do. I gambled it all. I gambled the 220 mil, the house, and the car. I picked the South Carolina / Tennessee game. I took Tennessee straight up.

Needless to say, my financial problem was resolved after that game. I was no longer going to have to live in the streets.

You know you can bet on just about anything?

I made a $2 bet Princess Di wouldn't make it out of the tunnel.
It was only a $2 bet but the odds were astronomical.

Been livin on easy street ever since.:whistling:

With us being only a 6.5 favorite, this may be one of few times I want to put some money down. Anybody care to point me in the direction of a good online betting location?

Don't do it, I'm not calling you dumb so don't take it as that just advice. Judging by your comments you have already bitten on this sucker bet because you are blinded by your orange colored glasses. This line started at 7 and moved to 6.5 and I expect that to keep going down as the game gets closer that means money is going to USU and Vegas is trying to get suckers to take UT. Vegas rarely gets it wrong but I'll tell you this they don't think very much of UT right now with that opening spread. 7 point favs with getting 3 points for being the home team so really Vegas gave 4 points now with that down to 6.5 its really a 3.5 point spread. If you do anything I would make a play on the O/U.

The line just went to UT -6. The betting $$$$ is backing USU. I don't get, personally. I think UT covers this one easily.

As stated by others, it's almost always bad business to bet on your team. It's also more important to know what bets not to make. If a line is too good to be true, you step away. Our boys very well could win by 20, but I won't be touching this one AT ALL.

Enjoy the game without the added stress. The Vols just aren't a smart play here.

I never bet. But if I did. I woukd bet against the vols. I get mad enough if we lose. Couldn't imagine throwing some in money I lost on top of the vols losing. So if we lose, I win money. If we win, I lose money. Which I'll gladly take the vols win and lose 20 bucks

I think the best time to bet is the beginning of the season. One year I rode Indiana and Antwaan Randle-El for several thousand till the oddsmakers caught up.

Oh in all likelihood they were onto it, and the betting public wasn't. But yeah, there are teams out there that you can catch in the first month or so that bettors won't back and Vegas can bait the hook. I like weeks 2-6 myself.

For those of you that do bet, I read somewhere they said most of the "easy" money is at the beginning of the year when Vegas doesn't know who's going to be what just yet...

I have never bet on games but I'm not dumb enough to try and bet on anything pro or on any of my teams, too much interference of what I want to happen and my heart not my head.

But my question for you guys that do bet is for week one, who/what are you betting, I want to start out slow and easy until I figure it out but I want some advice and assistance from some of you seasoned vets on a "safe" week one game to bet on

Most recent line has UT favored by 6 down from 6.5. I guess some other people know something we don't

I haven't dug into this week, but did want to say that there's no such thing as a safe bet. Really the two most important things are learning to manage your money and learning when to lay off. It's a very streaky thing. Be prepared to deal with the highs and lows

Never...EVER....bet intoxicated. I've seen folks lose a ton of money that way.
