You know, its become quite obvious in recent years that unfortunately Neyland just isn't one of the most intimidating stadiums in college football.
It should be.
Neyland is large, but still compact - rising almost straight up. This is perfect for creating volume. We have one of the most storied programs with probably THE most loyal fans. So we have plenty to get excited about. We regularly beat top 10 teams on the road, but haven't beaten a top 10 team at home since '99. Its dang time to do it.
We, as fans, share in the responsibility for making Neyland a feared environment for the opposition. Anyone who was paying attention to the LSU game would have noticed what an intimidating environment we entered. Our players were like a deer in the headlights in the first half, and it was because of the LSU fans.
Now I won't condone the overly rowdy behavior such as throwing beer bottles at the Georgia team bus, but dang it, our team needs all the help they can get. We have to figure we'll be lucky to put 14 points on the board - lets hope I'm wrong - but if not, its incumbant upon the defense to shut down Shockley and co. Thats where we, the crowd, come in. We have to make noise. Noise to intimidate, noise to frustrate and noise to disrupt.
So I challenge all of you to be as loud as you've every been at a Tennessee game this weekend. We're in the running for an SEC title, its our biggest home game of the year, our team is struggling and this is our opportunity to help. If you can't be loud, maybe you should stay home and watch on TV. If others around you aren't loud, encourage them to support the VOLS with their voices. This all starts with us, the dedicated die hard fans. I KNOW for a fact that nobody wants their team to win more than we do, so lets act like it Saturday!
