You know, its become quite obvious in recent years that unfortunately Neyland just isn't one of the most intimidating stadiums in college football.

It should be.

Neyland is large, but still compact - rising almost straight up. This is perfect for creating volume. We have one of the most storied programs with probably THE most loyal fans. So we have plenty to get excited about. We regularly beat top 10 teams on the road, but haven't beaten a top 10 team at home since '99. Its dang time to do it.

We, as fans, share in the responsibility for making Neyland a feared environment for the opposition. Anyone who was paying attention to the LSU game would have noticed what an intimidating environment we entered. Our players were like a deer in the headlights in the first half, and it was because of the LSU fans.

Now I won't condone the overly rowdy behavior such as throwing beer bottles at the Georgia team bus, but dang it, our team needs all the help they can get. We have to figure we'll be lucky to put 14 points on the board - lets hope I'm wrong - but if not, its incumbant upon the defense to shut down Shockley and co. Thats where we, the crowd, come in. We have to make noise. Noise to intimidate, noise to frustrate and noise to disrupt.

So I challenge all of you to be as loud as you've every been at a Tennessee game this weekend. We're in the running for an SEC title, its our biggest home game of the year, our team is struggling and this is our opportunity to help. If you can't be loud, maybe you should stay home and watch on TV. If others around you aren't loud, encourage them to support the VOLS with their voices. This all starts with us, the dedicated die hard fans. I KNOW for a fact that nobody wants their team to win more than we do, so lets act like it Saturday!

:peace:

“They are a well-coached and will be a challenge,” said Fulmer, who is 17-3 by comparison in road stadiums since the start of 2001. “I would encourage the crowd to be out early and loud and help us out all they can. We’ve been to Florida and LSU and gotten the other end of that treatment.

I'm glad Fulmer and I are on the same wavelength.  :biggrin2:

This has been discussed in earlier threads and I agree. What I've read and heard from other folks there is a contingent in the stadium that requests rooting fans to sit down and shut up! My suggestion is if ya'll encounter those folks to respectfully tell them to join you in getting loud or GO TO HELL!!!

We oughta spread an internet message that Saturday is "don't sit down or shut up till the Vols have the game in the bag" day.

We need something like the Miss State fans have with the cowbells. I think that the older folks could really get into something that makes a lot of noise for them.

So what could it be?

You know, I appreciate the $ that the old guard contribute to the program, but you're right, they need to be reminded that for our VOLS to have the best chance of winning, we all need to be loud.

Maybe the older folks could rattle their pill bottles.

At the LSU game, a guy behind me had a duck call.

It was GOD AWFUL!

IT sounded like a real loud laugh.

I say we use our lungs and just yell till we bleed.

I liked the kazoo idea myself.

That was pretty funny. The only thing more annoying than the band playing Rocky Top incessantly is if we could get 100,000 off key playing it on Kazoos.

Thats the spirit. Now, if we could just get the other 109,000 to agree with us...

My buddy and I just yell REAL loud from the time the opposing offense is in the huddle until they snap the ball and we usually get "the look" by the people around us.

You know that look loud people, the ones that say, "I wish they wouldn't yell so loud".

GOD I hate that look!

It's also hard to yell and act crazy when the people in front of you brought a whole family of 2 and 3 year olds that sit in front of you. I can't figure out for the life of me why someone would want to take a group of 2 year olds to the game.

Now you're talking LIO and GaVol. 109,000 kazoos doing Rocky Top would HAVE to be distracting to the opposition!!

That is a major pet peeve of mine. I've got a 3 year old that is at least 4-5 years from seeing the inside of a stadium.

Train whistles and those plastic slide whistles would work too.

Still no problem with yelling... just have to keep the profanity in check! :ninja:

The ought to know what they're getting themselves into. If people want a nice civil quiet environment, they should stay at home!

Most of them just end up leaving early after their children have spent most of their time there hitting my knees with their elbows and heads and looking back at me like I've lost my mind when I do anything. Kids stress me out. :biggrin2:
