IMO part of the problem is Knoxville is in the bible belt and generally the people are a little more reserved than they are in, say, Louisiana or Florida. I love the people in East Tennessee (I'm a native), but generally they aren't as crazy as people in other parts of the country. My in laws are from Louisiana with some cajun blood. Inherently they are loud people, they drink and party and love life. Seems like East Tennesseans (and the rest of the bible belt) are more reserved and measured in their emotions.
