I think any chance at landing Josh Selby has faded away

Dude, Calipari has more players drafted this year than Bruce will have had in his entire career. I mean, I love Bruce and I think he is the best coach TN could ever have, but Calipari turns out NBA players plain and simple.

All those guys would be in the NBA this year no matter where they went. You can't really give somebody credit for getting a one-and-done into the NBA as that was their plan all along. I'm more impressed with what Bruce did with a guy like Weezy and the improvements he has made since his freshman year.

So one shouldn't be impressed that he got all those guys to come to HIS school?

That wasn't what I was saying. The guy I was replying to said Calipari was a better DEVELOPER of talent than Pearl because of how many NBA players he produces.

signs many of the best ballers and then they go to the pros after one year or maybe two. The players are just putting in the necessary time before jumping into the pro ranks.

I don't expect Cal to change his recruiting philosophy--how could you when you get the cream of the crop--but I would say it's been somewhat discredited. For all his recruiting success, he's never won a national title and he never will--as the players don't stay around long enough to develop and find some real chemistry. And while's it's nice to land the great players, because they never stick around he's got to recruit constantly to restock his roster. Meanwhile, Coach K just won his fourth title with an experienced group of players who are not ballers, just good players who stay in college for at least three years. Coach K doesn't want the John Walls types...That's the way the college game should work.

Im afraid this is true, since Caliparis players dont have to go to class or take tests they have alot more time to practice ball. Also he better prepares them for the professional ranks because they already have Shoe contracts and endorsements set up even before they sign for him. So yes, he does prepare them better.

So you are saying that Cal had 5 NBA players at UK and made it to the elite 8?

Pearl had 0 NBA players and made it to the elite 8.

Now, who did you say is the better coach?

It's not even confirmed he's playing AAU ball this summer. Which I don't think he is. I'm pretty sure the latest news is all contenders for Selby will be visiting him tomorrow, in Maryland.

I thought it was confirmed that it was in Knoxville? Oh well

Apparently the guy was wrong that was saying that. Someone else posted a link showing that Selby's team is playing in the Boo Williams Tourney in Virginia.

Cal will get a title before it's all said and done.

5 players including John Wall have declared for the NBA draft. Although, now the chances of landing Selby are slim at best, this is great news for Tennessee basketball!

Wall among five Kentucky players heading to NBA GoVolsXtra
Did you feel more confident about us having a chance to get him 2 weeks ago?

Just curious, because it has pretty much been a given all year that Wall was leaving and probably a handful more of Wildcats.

i just don't see how anything that has happened in the last few days or weeks could have taken your from slightly optimistic to giving up all hope.

I haven't given up all hope, but Bledsoe leaving does increase Selby's odds of ending up at Kentucky. It was not certain that Bledsoe would leave.

It's Bledsoe, Patterson, and Orton that I didn't expect to leave, and yes now that both Wall and Bledsoe are leaving, I do think it hurts our chances. Im not stupid, everyone knew that Cousins and Wall were leaving after this year. I admit I went to far by saying that any chance of landing Josh Selby has faded away, because I still think we're in it. In Selby's last interview he seemed as if his mind was already made up on where he wanted to go, but he was trying to hide it.

Based on what I've read on here about his academics, I would have to disagree with that.

well if selby hasnt visited kentucky,i doubt he goes there,i say vols!!

I keep hearing that, but did he not go to their Midnight Madness? I think he just decided against a return visit.

I think the real issue is that there are things going on out of public view this week. It seems real hush-hush, and that is what is giving me hope. I am hoping that Selby wants to come to Tennessee, and he (and Pearl) just needs to convince momma...Momma's usually win out, but who knows? Tennessee tourney run might tip the balances against all that has been said against Tennessee's case.
