I’d personally love to be in the SEC title game just about every year like Georgia
It doesn't take a genius to beat Georgia. It takes being better than they are. It takes an elite defense with a will to win and an offense that can play lights out. Unfortunately, we have 1 out of 2. I remember the days when we had an 8-game win streak against Georgia. Our coaches weren't geniuses. We were just better than them.Sorry but our coaches are not geniuses. Once we finally beat Georgia then I’ll believe it.
We could have a top 50 defense and if we have a top 5 offense we can beat UGA. Or vice-versa. This "defense wins championships" thing isn't entirely true. UGA statistically has a good offense. LSU had an amazing offense and a decent defense and ran through everyone. We had a good defense and a bad offense before and went 8-5 and beat Indiana by 1. It takes all 3 phases to win a championship.No. Not the case. We need as much defense as possible. We need playmakers all across the defense. Big-time talent scattered all across the board is what we need on defense to win the SEC. NFL draftable players is what we need. We have to beat Georgia or we ain't winning the East.
Kind of proves my point that they’re not geniuses. It doesn't take a genius to beat Georgia. It takes being better than they are. Seems like they play the Alabama model of 10 years ago which is what Kirby knows. Get the best recruits and don’t make mistakes.IMO UGA has a boring brand of football it’s a winner guess that’s all that matters. If you get the best players by far just play boring football manage the game no risk and you win no flare but championships.
Heupel is a legitimate offensive genius... "sorry". In year 2, he has the nation's top offense while playing in the SEC. He does NOT have the nation's top offensive talent... and truthfully not all that close. He has taken spare parts and built an Indy 500 winner on O.Sorry but our coaches are not geniuses. Once we finally beat Georgia then I’ll believe it.
If I was an up-and-coming defensive player with even a modicum of talent, I'd be begging UT to let me come. The only way is up on that side of the ball.I think we have really good coaches. If they can recruit on the level of Georgia and Alabama then we’ll be calling them geniuses. Need to upgrade the talent.
Not sure about boring but would be less boring if someone would beat them every now and then. Michigan no less boring but they aren’t year over year dominant so you kinda felt like they wouldn’t win today until they went all old school on OSUIMO UGA has a boring brand of football it’s a winner guess that’s all that matters. If you get the best players by far just play boring football manage the game no risk and you win no flare but championships.
He’s really good without a doubt, best coach we’ve had since Fulmer and he might be better than Fulmer. I’d hate to lose him. But you really think he’s a genius? Seriously?Heupel is a legitimate offensive genius... "sorry". In year 2, he has the nation's top offense while playing in the SEC. He does NOT have the nation's top offensive talent... and truthfully not all that close. He has taken spare parts and built an Indy 500 winner on O.
He will have to prove his HC skills by making the right decisions about the defense. He doesn't have to run it. He has to find the right people to run it.
Not sure I follow. Heupel didn’t build the roster through recruiting. The majority of stars on offense were already here when he arrived. Hell, Hooker wasn’t even his choice to start. it’s not like Heupel recruited what we have on offense now. Most of the players are leftovers that everyone thought was hammered poop under Pruitt. Coaching, scheme and execution is the difference. The true genius behind CJH's rebuilding plan.
The first thing he did was install a high-powered high-scoring offense. Why? Because offense wins games. Scoring a bunch of points draws attention to the program. Makes offensive recruits want to come here and score. But as the old saying goes....
Defense wins championships. Our defense has been suspect for most of the season, and finally exposed here at the end.
However....
Now the top defensive recruits have seen that Tennessee is gonna score points. We have run with the big boys (except for Georgia, for now) this season. Maybe they see Tennessee as the place where they can make their name as "the missing element" that truly returns Tennessee to the elite status we enjoyed in the past. Helps with those massive NFL rookie contracts.
So far, 13 of the commits in the 2023 class are on defense. Sorely needed. Hopefully they all come with the attitude of being that missing element.
And, with a defense as productive as the offense, Tennessee wins championships.
Just the opinion of an everyday fan and VFL. Now go whoop Vanderbilt.
