Makes sense to me. One, you know what you have. Two, if you've got your eye on someone else as a receiver then you can tell them that there is one less person to compete with.
What if another player was considering coming because of Markeith coming or not?
His noncommitment because he wants to be the big news could really be screwing things up. It would almost be a bad example to let him come in now. Does that mean that he then has the message that he doesn't have to follow whats expected of him or that you need him so bad that you'll give him a longer lead for screwups.
We need this to be a program where players feel like it is a privilege to be offered. We don't need to be considered the fall back plan if something happens with their first choice.
Money says this kid holds out past NSD so all eyes can be on him. If that is the case, he will hopefully not have our hat on the table because his offered will have been rescinded.
