I was at this game...

Officiating in this game was awful. It felt like whenever there was a flag, the refs had to have a conference about it. The game lasted like over 4 hours, which was very long for a Fulmer game.

I forgot that Clausen was under duress the entire game. TN was never the same after that 2001 SEC title loss vs. LSU.

Watching the highlights reminded me the love I had for bowl games “back in the day.” I love competition and hope our Vols come out with a Dub vs Clemson.

Watching sports is a funny thing. I get such a high when TN beats an elite (or rival) program (Bama, FL,
LSU) but then get so frustrated when TN loses to an inferior opponent.

GO VOLS!

I remember they said they were going to take that game seriously and try hard to win after the embarrassing 30-3 Peach Bowl loss to Maryland the year before well clearly it didn’t happen. We were 10-2 going into that game and I still think some players and fans were miffed about not going to the SEC title game we finished in a three way tie with Georgia and Florida that season. We beat Florida, Bama and Miami that year I think it was Miami’s first home loss in like 4 seasons or something they were really good then. It def was a disappointment end to Clausen’s career he finished with a 1-3 bowl record.

Spot on. I was on Everest when we beat Bama and a few feet above hell after the South Carolina loss. Talk about a mix of emotions.

Yeah, it was definitely a let down to get destroyed by USCjr and lose the opportunity for the playoffs. Yes I would have been happy if you told me in August that this team would go 10-2. But expectations changed after each win.

It’s so difficult to get to the playoffs and win a championship, esp in the SEC. Ohio St, Clemson, Bama, UGA, and a few others are always in the post season conversation.

Hopefully Heup will get us to the promise land sooner rather than later. I’d love to see one more championship in my lifetime.

Just another game that Fulmer didn’t have his team ready to play. Fulmer could recruit but he couldn’t coach a lick. He won a lot of games with superior talent but he lost a lot of games with still having superior talent.

He came back and hired Cornbread from Alabama. I can’t for the life of me see why he ever would hire that boob. Cornbread couldn’t put two sentences together. Fulmer will never be remembered in a good light because of that hire. His legacy with most Vol fans was damaged beyond repair.

Even down near the end, PF gave glowing reviews of Cornbread's greatness. I've always supported PF and appreciate him as a Vol legend. But, in this, he was either flat out lying or just seriously disconnected from the profession.

They didn’t take this game seriously. Casey Clausen held a players meeting because of all the crying about not getting a bigger bowl. Half of them didn’t want to come.

I was there too. Knew as soon as the Vols came on the field it was going to be a loss. Absolutely no energy.

And we were a better team than that Clemson team a shame we didn’t show up. The end of Fulmer’s run was getting closer at this point and Randy Sanders should’ve been fired after this game.

This game is among many reasons I’m glad the Georgia Dome was reduced to rubble.

Hope we get right against Climpson 12/30

CPF was a good coach, for the time.

Not a good AD. Pruitt was a dipshit.

I think Johnny Majors will be more favorably remembered and liked more by the fans going forward than Fulmer will despite him winning the national title.

No doubt. Johnny Majors is a Vol legend. Fulmer back stabbed Johnny when he was out with heart problems. Looking back on Fulmer’s tenure, he did a lot of shady things. Major’s got hosed by Fulmer after giving Fulmer his first assistant job.
