BabyVol on TOS's got a pretty good write up on his perspective. It looks like there were enough key boosters to get it rolling, not enough key boosters to run it through. Gruden's money demands for himself were agreed upon. He had enough interest to start gauging coaches' interests for his staff. This was tweeted by other NFL beat reporters, not OG's. Saying Gruden never had interest in UT isn't accurate.
So, as a UT fan, who do you think puts our team on an even playing field w/ Bama, Fla, Ga, LSU, SC...Gruden or anyone else? That's not a hard question to answer. And if he even has the slightest interest, you go for it.
I think when it came time for Hart to reach out to Gruden because of all the grumors, a deal was on the table, but various issues had either side balking a bit.
Hart couldn't wait for when/if those issues could be fixed while all of his candidates on the short list were getting hired and/or contract extensions. And now we have Butch.
Is he a solid hire? Dunno...Dooley beat him, but he's won everywhere he's been. I just can't see him getting us to the top of the SEC east. Could Gruden? Dunno that either, but I guarantee he would get lots of attention from high caliber recruits and I can also guarantee BJones will not. He'll get a few, but he's not gonna turn as many heads as Gruden would have.
