I will continue to make excuses for Butch Jones...

We were outcoached today. Plain and simple. The talent excuse works when we are playing teams with more talent...which usually we are. But we weren't today.

Listen, you just can't argue with some of these idiots. We are 3-2, right where we thought we would be. It's not the coaches. The game plan and "scheme" was fine, Worley gave up probably 2 touchdowns with ints, then freaked out and started throwing like a blind man again. Our D got gassed with the 3 and outs and they got momentum and made a game of it. The team bowed up when they had to and got the win. We are who most of us thought we were and we won't be much better next year. Some of these people think if a player misses a tackle or drops a pass it must mean they aren't being coached well enough.

Of course not, which is why I made this thread. Because I understand context, unlike a lot of people here.

Saban looked bad in his first year at Alabama when the talent wasn't quite there, remember (though still a much better situation overall). Not saying Jones is Saban, of course, but talent influences our perception of a coach way too much.
That's the stupidest card that is always played comparing Saban's first year. He won a NC at LSU before he got there.

...because those excuses are completely, 100% legitimate. This is Year Zero.

Deal with it.

I guess you really are impressed with such a crucial win over such an excellent team as South Alabama....geez...they would have probably beaten Alabama by 40 points. Worley did another fine job today as always and the coaching staff was in fine form as well!!!

They're LSU compared to South Alabama.

As was Saban's talent situation at Alabama compared to Jones' right now.

By the way, I wouldn't be quite so quick to say that since Louisiana Monroe had a losing record in every year of their 1-A existence until going 6-6 that year. South Alabama, on the other hand, actually looks fairly impressive this year for a Sun Belt team.

Honestly the only complaints with Butch I have are not giving either freshman a shot, and calling his assistants from Cincy the best staff in the country.

guys get a grip. the game was close because of terrible qb play with 2 int's in the red zone and paladay bobbled fg. If we had a decent qb, then the whinning on this thread would be nonexistent (well, almost anyway). If the qb problem is solved (playing one of the freshmen), then we probably will improve. To continuously wail about bad coaching is something couch potato fb experts do.

Pig blew it on the second one and quit his route early. So you go with a freshman that hasn't done anything in practice. Oh wait, we go with Dallas bc he's a WR and probably can throw the ball. Oh wait, we lean on an I line that can't move anybody off the ball. Oh wait we throw it to our sure handed WR that have blazing speed and get off coverage with ease. Oh wait, we give it to our all star RB that we don't have. Oh wait, we play ball control and let our d line that can't push anybody around to salt away the win

You're right. Running the read option play after play is helping out a lot.

Basically all i hear is that Butch needs better players. Well no ****.

But good coaches take garbage and work with it. Seems like he's continually forcing a square peg in a round hole.

He's taking this garbage and doing something with it. You must think there's a magic wand a coach waves and all the bull crap losing the past 3 years just vanishes. The mental beat downs this team has endeared along with the last coach telling everyone it's all there fault will take a little time to erase. Winning is a mentality that has to be learned and earned.
