Feldman: 37 CFB assistant coaches who might run the carousel this fall

This article is from August. Golesh is at #5 on the list and I have to think his stock has increased since then. He’s gotta be more desirable than Gattis at this point.

I think it might be a good thing for Tennessee if Golesh were to land a HC job and get some seasoning. If Heupel eventually lands an NFL job like some are speculating (I’m not saying he will, but I’ll admit the possibility), and if Golesh has shown he can be a HC somewhere else, it worries make sense to have Golesh come back and keep the same systems, culture, etc.

I have just assumed Golesh is gone after this year - hope I am wrong.

This offense is too explosive for a school not to hire him. If his aspirations are to lead a team he will not be in Knoxville next season.

Personally IMO I think he stays one more season with the sec championship gone even if we win the natty thats a goal that was set and not achieved i would think he would want to help get that first
His personal goals are probably to run a program and make HC money. Focused on the team goal now, but personal goals trump that at seasons end.

Honestly, He should take any P5 HC job offered anywhere not named Auburn. You only get a few chances to take shots like being a head ball coach.

Josh Pate made some interesting statements the other day regarding Josh Heupel and his staff. He talked about the immediate buy-in that some coaches receive from the universities and boosters because of their respect and credibility that already existed. Nick Saban immediately got everything he wanted at Alabama and so did Kirby Smart. Other hires however, receive more of a selective, wait and see response. Josh indicated that Heupel may not have gotten much of what he wanted when he arrived and may have had to settle on some hires….

Interestingly, Tennessee will be a much more appealing job for many and Heupel now has significant leverage.

I have a feeling we may see some significant upgrades to the coaching staff this year.

No argument from me here i just think he wants to be a part of bringing an sec and national championship to this team, maybe finish what he started first just my 2 cents which ain't worth that

I could see Georgia Tech interviewing Alex Golesh after the GT-Georgia game

Being the other team in GA might have me back off. Uphill P5 jobs might make me hear all the offers. He came up through the RIGHT G5 path and might look hard at some of those too. Guessing he is not expecting a destination job at this point in time, and a successful stepping stone might be in play.

Golesh is such a nice guy. I hope he stays with us as long as he doesn't get a HC position. As much as I want him to stay, I would love to see him as a HC somewhere and succeed. I think if that happens Halzle will likely be our next OC. He has been with Huepel for long, understands the system well and seems to a good job as a QB coach.

Most Coaches want to be "The Man"....... Also, Money Talks $$$. Good that our assistant coaches are being considered for HC jobs. GO VOLS....... Stomp a mudhole in Mizzou.

Not saying he doesn’t have a hand in gameplanning or that he isn’t a good assistant coach, but he doesn’t call plays right? Heupel does. It’s CJH’s offense. Seems like teams would want a guy who could do that himself. Maybe im wrong. I could see a smaller school looking at him as a HC, not a P5 job. Not yet anyway.

Ask me today with 3 games left and potential CFP run...Golesh isn't leaving.

Ask me 2 months after we play for a Natty..might be a different story.

One thing though, Golesh has seen how a great AD works and he will be able to be very selective about the HC job he takes. He won't take a job just to be a HC.

He has put his time in and the Vols have the hottest offense in football right now.

I would expect him to be gone in the off season.

If Alex Golesh were to be hired by GT i think Coach Heupel could hire Scott Frost as OC if he doesn't get hired by South Florida

IMO it doesn’t matter. This is Heupels offense and that’s what we are running. You take Golesh out and Halze moves from QB coach to OC. Still going to have that continuity going into next season no matter what.

I think you are accurate. It’s not his offense, and he doesn’t call the plays. His value is his role in practice/preparation, and his relationship with the players. He would be a loss for sure, but not one that would slow us down.
