I would love for John Ward to call one more

May God set your soul on fire and you die a slow and painful death.

As bad as that sounds, it still isn't fitting for a turd who hates John Ward. The turd should be water boarded every day for the rest of his life!

Absolutely the best Play-by-Play guy EVER! I loved that he would take time describing the details even if it took longer than the actual play. You heard the roar of the crowd in the background before JW had announced the ball carrier being in the endzone... you knew he was going to make it, but the anticipation of John guiding your mind into the Endzone with the ball would just bring emotions to a boil, first....

It wasn't really a score until John Ward told you it was... and by then my eyes were welled up and I was holding my breath waiting to cheer until JW made it official , then all the emotion would explode!!!

What's so great about him?

You may be too young to really remember John and Bill as we do. Games were not televised as they are now. As Kenny Chesney says in his song, Your voice was our eyes and we could see TOUCHDOWN TENNESSEE.

No amount of explanation will make you understand if you didn't actually hear John and Bill call the games.

As much as I would love to hear John ard call another game it is just glorious that his last UT Football call is "The national champion is clad in Big Orange"

How cool was it that his last called game was the first BCS Championship and our beloved Vols came out on top! Man those were the days. I spent many Saturday afternoons working around the house or out in the shop with the game on and the one and only John Ward at the mic. He could make you feel like you were at the game. Miss that guy.

I don't hate him, but he was not a great play-by-play man. I think the obsession with John Ward is that most grew up listening to him... nostalgia.

I could really try, but there's no way I could possibly disagree with you more. Not a great play by play guy? Define what you want to hear from a play by play guy. I've never heard a pbp guy be more professional, more balanced, more descriptive, more exciting and bring the game more to life than Ward. If I'm nostalgic, it's not because I listened to him forever, it's because he was the best I've ever heard. I've been listening to Kesling now for 15 years but I promise I won't be nostalgic for him.

One final thought. When UT used to do the football caravans throughout Tennessee with the players, coaches, Dickey and Ward.... Ward was the one who got the most applause, the standing ovations... not the players or coaches. I believe it's because he was so good at what he did and (most) everyone recognized it. I like Bob Kesling but this ain't ever happening for him IMO.

I look forward to Tennessee Natural Gas commercials just so I can heat the voice of John Ward.

So the first house my wife and I bought did not have natural gas. I was told that NES paid a truckload of money to the developer to block natural gas. Anyway, with John Ward's pitch of the benefits of natural gas it got me thinking. Heats water 3 times as fast? Warm air blowing from the vents? What's not to love! So 2 years later we decided to move and insisted on a house with gas.

True story, John Ward saved my life with his gas!
