I'd like to see Nico get substantial playing time Saturday against Kentucky.

If Nico plays this year, it's either because we're up big or Joe is hurt. Even if we lose to both Kentucky and Missouri and our season is effectively over, I don't think you give him his first start against Georgia.

I just feel like it's time. I feel like he's that good. I feel like he will contribute to this season, a definite asset, the experience will be invaluable. I have seen a lot of qb's at UT play and it's his turn to play substantially, and it keeps him happy, in case he's not.
Why?

I'd like a spicy chicken sandwich and small waffle fries. Let's see who gets their wish first.

Have you been watching him at practice? Have you talked to Heupel? What makes you think you know more about Nico's readiness than the head coach?

While I understand the enthusiasm, and while I would also like to see Nico get playing time (in the event of a blowout), we need to understand as fans that none of us have the same bearing on the pulse of the QB room as Heupel and his staff. Sure, Joe plays below where he should play, but that still might be better than whatever Nico's capable of in this offense.
OP has "feelings"

Won’t happen. We need a running QB against the Cats and Joe is definitely stepping into that role. Nico still needs to beef up.
UConn however should be his coming out party after Joe works the first half.
Then we can decide who gives us the best shot at Missouri.
But Joe played well enough Saturday to continue as QB1. It might have been his best game in Orange all things considered
Agreed. The playcalling was beautiful in the first half. We had them off balance. Only issue is we bog down in the red zone. When the field gets short that’s when Joe isn’t the most reliable.

He will play when Tennessee is mathematically eliminated from SEC East Title contention. It is that simple.

How many times has Nico appeared in a game? Is there still a chance the he can redshirt this season? Wouldn’t that be preferable in the long view?

Admittedly, I’ve not kept up with Nico’s status.

Edit: I just now red CJH’s statement that Nico wouldn’t redshirt in 2023.

If Nico is what he's been pumped up to be a redshirt season means nothing in the long term. He'll be in the NFL after his 3 years.

How has he been in the practices you’ve been to lately? I heard Castles say in an interview the other day he is still learning every day.

Its been stated by people in the Know, Nico's first start will be 2024 barring any injury.

It's no disrespect towards Milton but I'm kind of looking at Titans qb Levis playing a lot this week if Tanneyhill doesn't start. He deserves a shot, as does Nico. I mean you got to play your best hand to have the best shot at winning. We don't know what Nico nor what Levis can do until they have a real chance.

The problem against Bama was Milton played well in the first half and not good enough in the 2nd. He is consistently “just okay” and sometimes has really good moments which makes it harder to make a change.

I actually agree it’s time to get some Nico reps. I just understand why we haven’t changed yet.

I'd like to see the 30 year old version of me when I look into the mirror, but that's not happening either.

ATS Funny rite thar! We will see Nico in mop up. Hype isn't going to mess with Joe's head AT THIS POINT. He is riding Joe for the season, and looking ahead to Nico in 24. Hype is probably Loyal to a fault. Joe Milton Still has a shot of cementing a legacy at Tennessee by Winning out! Let's hope for that.

The worst thing TN could do is give a back up QB some playing time knowing next year he will be the starter. It's best if we wait until next year before we left him hand the ball off and throw screens to the sidelines. That way you can go thru all of the learning curve at one time. What if he plays this year and we don't make it to the SEC championship game or the playoffs in another month or two ?

If Milton looks like he did against Texas A&M we should see Nicoin the second half. If Milton looks like he did against Bama we won't. IF we lose this game, I think Nico taking over at UConn makes sense.
1st half Milton I’d agree with you, 2nd half Milton Nico should be in.
