My rebuttal to your comment would be that Heupel has a history of leaving more capable player sitting on the bench while the starter plays poorly ahead of him. Look no further than how he handled the quarterback competition going into his first season. It is unfathomable that he Chose Milton over a generational talent and hookerHave you been watching him at practice? Have you talked to Heupel? What makes you think you know more about Nico's readiness than the head coach?
While I understand the enthusiasm, and while I would also like to see Nico get playing time (in the event of a blowout), we need to understand as fans that none of us have the same bearing on the pulse of the QB room as Heupel and his staff. Sure, Joe plays below where he should play, but that still might be better than whatever Nico's capable of in this offense.
The one time I saw him out there, I was all tensed up, worried about him getting hurt. He needs 20 more pounds on him before goes up against SEC defenses on a regular basis. Why do fans ALWAYS fall in love with unproven QB recruits?
I do think Nico will do well l here, especially under the coaching of the CJHs. But have we not seen enough busts to at least slow down the cries for the next Harrison Bailey?
Getting to see what he can do will be great. But my biggest fear is he makes a few mistakes because he isnt ready yet and the very ones begging for him will turn on him like a rabid dog. Turn on him and the coaching staff.
So for me, I hope to see Nico when he is as ready as he can be for the time he is needed.
I could give two sh..s about seeing him make freshman mistakes or see him get blasted by a 300lb lineman before he has a full year in the nutrition and weight programs.

We won’t see Nico again until UConn at the earliest. He’s played in 2 games already and we won’t see him again until then or Vandy. Since he can only play in 4 at most it’ll be there or Vandy and then the Bowl game to preserve his redshirt. We aren’t deep at QB and CJH is having to manage it to keep a QB for a few years so the guy coming in next year can have 3 yrs in the system or more before he takes over. It’s all a chess this year to set up for next several seasons.I just feel like it's time. I feel like he's that good. I feel like he will contribute to this season, a definite asset, the experience will be invaluable. I have seen a lot of qb's at UT play and it's his turn to play substantially, and it keeps him happy, in case he's not.
Didn't we started Dobbs as a frosh against Bama?IF this team loses to Kensucky, AND Joe plays really bad, we might see him sooner than later. I think he gets a lot of reps against UCONN regardless, and maybe Vandy.
I don't see them starting or playing Nico against UGAly regardless of how Joe plays.
What gives you this feeling? Have you talked to the coaches or watched practice?I just feel like it's time. I feel like he's that good. Still can’t believe the Titans passed up Hendon Hooker for Will LevisIt's no disrespect towards Milton but I'm kind of looking at Titans qb Levis playing a lot this week if Tanneyhill doesn't start. He deserves a shot, as does Nico. I mean you got to play your best hand to have the best shot at winning. We don't know what Nico nor what Levis can do until they have a real chance.
It’s when we miss Fant the most. Still wonder why we didn’t at least try Sampson and the Speed option at least onceAgreed. The playcalling was beautiful in the first half. We had them off balance. Only issue is we bog down in the red zone. When the field gets short that’s when Joe isn’t the most reliable.
If your answer is: Heupel is not a very good coach, just say that.My rebuttal to your comment would be that Heupel has a history of leaving more capable player sitting on the bench while the starter plays poorly ahead of him. Furthermore, just use your common sense. Don’t you think most talented quarterbacks could perform better than Milton? I certainly do. He’s not good. He doesn’t consistently make accurate throws, he’s not really explosive/twitchy with his running ability, and he routinely has huge mental lapses That causes fumbles and prevent first downs from being made, etc.
You don’t have to be at practice to recognize what Milton does on Saturday isn’t good. And really the only thing that matters is how they perform in games.
Or he went in. Something like that. The team had multiple losses already too. And iirc, worley was hurt, peterman was bad, Ferguson was also a freshman, and Dobbs gave the offense a spark and had already played a few snaps. Could be wrong but it’s definitely not the same as a two loss starter who actually played good enough to win the game.Didn't we started Dobbs as a frosh against Bama?
According to you only solution is fire Heupel because he doesn't Know what he is doing. My rebuttal to your comment would be that Heupel has a history of leaving more capable player sitting on the bench while the starter plays poorly ahead of him. The rebuttal to that is Hooker had all the time in the world to prove he was the man in practice. If you're a first-season coach, and you have 2 guys who have no game performances at the school, minimal performances at old schools (which honestly weren't that great), how do you judge them? At practice and film study. There are 12 games. You don't have time to throw away quarters just "to see what a guy can do". Unless a guy completed implodes, which Milton has not done despite what so many claim because they have unrealistic expectations, you ride the guy that's proven it in practice. My rebuttal to your comment would be that Heupel has a history of leaving more capable player sitting on the bench while the starter plays poorly ahead of him. Absolutely the best post/response I've read in this thread. This x 100%The rebuttal to that is Hooker had all the time in the world to prove he was the man in practice.
