I'd like to see Nico get substantial playing time Saturday against Kentucky.

Have you been watching him at practice? Have you talked to Heupel? What makes you think you know more about Nico's readiness than the head coach?

While I understand the enthusiasm, and while I would also like to see Nico get playing time (in the event of a blowout), we need to understand as fans that none of us have the same bearing on the pulse of the QB room as Heupel and his staff. Sure, Joe plays below where he should play, but that still might be better than whatever Nico's capable of in this offense.
My rebuttal to your comment would be that Heupel has a history of leaving more capable player sitting on the bench while the starter plays poorly ahead of him. Look no further than how he handled the quarterback competition going into his first season. It is unfathomable that he Chose Milton over a generational talent and hooker

Furthermore, just use your common sense. Don’t you think most talented quarterbacks could perform better than Milton? I certainly do. He’s not good. He doesn’t consistently make accurate throws, he’s not really explosive/twitchy with his running ability, and he routinely has huge mental lapses That causes fumbles and prevent first downs from being made, etc.

You don’t have to be at practice to recognize what Milton does on Saturday isn’t good. And really the only thing that matters is how they perform in games.

Why do fans ALWAYS fall in love with unproven QB recruits?

I do think Nico will do well l here, especially under the coaching of the CJHs. But have we not seen enough busts to at least slow down the cries for the next Harrison Bailey?

Getting to see what he can do will be great. But my biggest fear is he makes a few mistakes because he isnt ready yet and the very ones begging for him will turn on him like a rabid dog. Turn on him and the coaching staff.

So for me, I hope to see Nico when he is as ready as he can be for the time he is needed.

I could give two sh..s about seeing him make freshman mistakes or see him get blasted by a 300lb lineman before he has a full year in the nutrition and weight programs.

JMO🤷‍♂️
The one time I saw him out there, I was all tensed up, worried about him getting hurt. He needs 20 more pounds on him before goes up against SEC defenses on a regular basis.

I just feel like it's time. I feel like he's that good. I feel like he will contribute to this season, a definite asset, the experience will be invaluable. I have seen a lot of qb's at UT play and it's his turn to play substantially, and it keeps him happy, in case he's not.
We won’t see Nico again until UConn at the earliest. He’s played in 2 games already and we won’t see him again until then or Vandy. Since he can only play in 4 at most it’ll be there or Vandy and then the Bowl game to preserve his redshirt. We aren’t deep at QB and CJH is having to manage it to keep a QB for a few years so the guy coming in next year can have 3 yrs in the system or more before he takes over. It’s all a chess this year to set up for next several seasons.

can we please stop with this... Milton is QB1 right now. As we take care of business in the games (and we should have more earlier in the season), Nico should then get more playing time.

I hope to see him play a good amount in the UConn game as maybe even Vandy

IF this team loses to Kensucky, AND Joe plays really bad, we might see him sooner than later. I think he gets a lot of reps against UCONN regardless, and maybe Vandy.

I don't see them starting or playing Nico against UGAly regardless of how Joe plays.
Didn't we started Dobbs as a frosh against Bama?

What gives you this feeling? Have you talked to the coaches or watched practice?

This thread is like deja vu every week ... actually more like deja vu every week every year.

If Nico plays I want it to be because (1) we are up big and (2) the coaches feel he can handle the situation.

Y’all gotta understand the dynamics of a team… Alex Smith is no where near as good as Mahomes but it was a lot Mahomes could learn from sitting and watching Alex for a year… this is the situation I see Nico in sit and learn from a 6th year Senior about the small details and preparation it takes to be a Qb at this level… Nico’s time will come I think he has a much better natural feel and awareness for the game but no need to rush him especially when this team can still win 10 games with Joe… y’all hate him so much but he has really played much better in the second half of A&M and as a runner… Bama we lost momentum and got conservative Joe is not the reason we lost we all want to see Nico but patience is key… I believe he will be great whenever his time comes but that is not at this very moment.

It's no disrespect towards Milton but I'm kind of looking at Titans qb Levis playing a lot this week if Tanneyhill doesn't start. He deserves a shot, as does Nico. I mean you got to play your best hand to have the best shot at winning. We don't know what Nico nor what Levis can do until they have a real chance.
Still can’t believe the Titans passed up Hendon Hooker for Will Levis

Agreed. The playcalling was beautiful in the first half. We had them off balance. Only issue is we bog down in the red zone. When the field gets short that’s when Joe isn’t the most reliable.
It’s when we miss Fant the most. Still wonder why we didn’t at least try Sampson and the Speed option at least once

I think UConn will be the game we get to see a lot more of Nico...Should quiet down some people or cause absolute chaos if he turns the ball over or makes a freshman mistake...Lord help us.

Another thing to consider :

It is reported in several articles that the parents want Nico to redshirt, which I think is best.
He needs more practice and needs to add 15-20 pounds.

Suppose he is inserted in as the started at UCONN after some repetitions at Ky. Also suppose he
sustains a critical injury. What kind of message would that send the parents or to other recruits?
How would the parents react ?.

I would love to see NICO playing, but not if it presents chemistry problems that could affect the long term.
I think Milton can get us through the rest of the schedule, other than Ga.

If your answer is: Heupel is not a very good coach, just say that.

Or he went in. Something like that. The team had multiple losses already too. And iirc, worley was hurt, peterman was bad, Ferguson was also a freshman, and Dobbs gave the offense a spark and had already played a few snaps. Could be wrong but it’s definitely not the same as a two loss starter who actually played good enough to win the game.

According to you only solution is fire Heupel because he doesn't Know what he is doing.

The rebuttal to that is Hooker had all the time in the world to prove he was the man in practice. If you're a first-season coach, and you have 2 guys who have no game performances at the school, minimal performances at old schools (which honestly weren't that great), how do you judge them? At practice and film study. There are 12 games. You don't have time to throw away quarters just "to see what a guy can do". Unless a guy completed implodes, which Milton has not done despite what so many claim because they have unrealistic expectations, you ride the guy that's proven it in practice.

Absolutely the best post/response I've read in this thread. This x 100%
