I'd like to see Nico get substantial playing time Saturday against Kentucky.

Have you been watching him at practice? Have you talked to Heupel? What makes you think you know more about Nico's readiness than the head coach?

While I understand the enthusiasm, and while I would also like to see Nico get playing time (in the event of a blowout), we need to understand as fans that none of us have the same bearing on the pulse of the QB room as Heupel and his staff. Sure, Joe plays below where he should play, but that still might be better than whatever Nico's capable of in this offense.

Why do fans ALWAYS fall in love with unproven QB recruits?

I do think Nico will do well l here, especially under the coaching of the CJHs. But have we not seen enough busts to at least slow down the cries for the next Harrison Bailey?

Getting to see what he can do will be great. But my biggest fear is he makes a few mistakes because he isnt ready yet and the very ones begging for him will turn on him like a rabid dog. Turn on him and the coaching staff.

So for me, I hope to see Nico when he is as ready as he can be for the time he is needed.

I could give two sh..s about seeing him make freshman mistakes or see him get blasted by a 300lb lineman before he has a full year in the nutrition and weight programs.

Agree 100%. He could have all the talent in the world, but I guarantee if you put him in he will make some dumb mistakes. Even next year there will be some growing pains. I hope the people clamoring for him understand this.

I don't have a reading problem. You said Nico was a better runner than Milton. I asked you how you knew that. Just because a player shows does something in the spring game doesn't mean that will translate to games where the "opponent is not his teammate". No one has seen enough of Nico to make any judgement calls about how he will or won't play and how he will compare to Milton, Hooker, Dobbs, Manning, etc.
I am saying imo, and thats just it my opinion, you have yours and I have mine. We just disagree. And time will tell who is right. If you are right I will gracefully tell you so.

They don’t fall in love with the back up when the starter is the man. Nobody was calling for the back up last year. Or back when Dobbs was playing. Or Tyler Bray, Eric, Ainge, etc.
No uga or bama fans were calling for their back up last year. When the team has to win in spite of the quarterback…fans will rightfully wonder if anybody else could play at a higher level. And this is the second go round with Milton. He was terrible that first year heupel got the job and people were calling for the back up. They got their wish when Hooker came in, and he immediately proved to be a huge upgrade.

Yeah, when Ainge was pressured in the end zone at LSU, turned his back and threw it barely across the goal line for a pick six, Rick Clausen came in and saved the day. Hurricane Katrina postponed game in 2005

Ainge choked under pressure, throwing at least 2 critical pick sixes, while at UT. Exactly why he wasn't the QB as Clausen

Of all the qbs I pointed out that was the only one you could say ever hd fans asking for the backup. Lol. He was a really good qb during most of his time here but definitely went through a sophomore slump. But, he was a 19 year old true sophomore (not a 24 year old 6th year senior). The following year cutcliff returned and he ball the hell out in his first season with cutcliff. He threw for nearly as many yards just in his senior season as Milton has in his entire college career.
But I’ll give it to you, I could’ve left Ainge off the list. My point was just that when a qb plays well fans recognize them and don’t ask for the backup to play. Like I initially said…nobody was asking for the backup from the moment hooker stepped on the field.

Would love to see Nico play.

Last game however wasn't mostly on Joe. Plus he added 2 scores and 300+ total yards against Bama. Yes we still stalled with him at QB in the whole 2nd half, but he didn't play bad

Won’t happen. We need a running QB against the Cats and Joe is definitely stepping into that role. Nico still needs to beef up.
UConn however should be his coming out party after Joe works the first half.
Then we can decide who gives us the best shot at Missouri.
But Joe played well enough Saturday to continue as QB1. It might have been his best game in Orange all things considered
I wish they had a downvote button but I have to say it instead! Not sure what game you watched. Bama was asleep the first half and their qb is not the greatest either. The real milton showed up the 2nd half and he's not much of a runner. He always runs like he's afraid to get hit to me.

How did you run when you played?

At this point just stay the course.

We can run the table and get to ATL.

Georgia is ripe for a beating!
We have 2 sec loses someone else has to beat Georgia. And Florida has to have 3 loses unless there is a tie then I don't know what they do. Give it to the highest ranked?

So close to getting the point. What makes you think money would be the important thing with Nico's decision, when that time comes?
My point was more that you chose possibly the most unique quarterback returning or not decision ever (that also happened prior to the founding of Google) to attempt making a point about quarterback decisions in 2023 and beyond.

Yeah they were. First it was “Riley Ferguson was the future of the program,” and then even some of our smartest posters whose opinion I respect (cough… sjt18….cough) were pushing the “Get Dormady more PT because Dobbs isn’t good…” narrative.

And fans were about ready to run Ainge out of town on multiple occasions, especially in 2005 and when Crompton played well in relief.

Yeah, Cutcliffe designed an offense that included lots of short throws and check downs. Truth is, if Cutcliffe had been here in the early 2000s, neither Ainge nor Crompton would have come here. Neither one of them were Cutcliffe favorites, but that's all he had to work with

Barring injury, Milton ain't coming out. Might as well stop with this narrative. It's futile at this point (always was).

I would add that it would be a shame to blow his redshirt for 1 game to see how he might do. He's got two games to play without losing his redshirt. It might be good to see him play the second half of the Vandy game. Don't know that I would risk playing him in the UConn game because we might need him vs. UGA and/or Mizzou if Joe gets injured.
