If anyone still thinks stars dont really matter

Ok. So your point is Saban is great because he can enforce a curfew in college? Awesome point.

Saban wins because he has a overwhelming talent advantage 95% of the time.

Again, talent difference is minimal in NFL. Thus Saban was average at best.

Ole Ball Coach, Bobby Petrino, Nick Saban. None were very good in the pros, but are elite college coaches. NFL just a totally different game, ask Chip Kelly.
I would have loved to have seen Spurrier at his best against Saban. Would have been exciting offense vs dominating defense

Coaches like Saban, Myers, Miles and even that coach at Michigan know what it's all about.

Every one of those guys get elite recruits. They have not loaded up on 3* talent. Are they great coaches? Yes. But I believe that talent will make up for poor coaching more often than good coaching will make up for poor talent.

Yes it is a different animal. Saban did not have the talent advantage to rely on.

Anyone who was paying attention knew this class was in trouble for a while now. Claims of phantom bumps in the rankings and sleeper stars were just doing a lot of hoping. It was always headed to a 15-20 type final ranking. Replacing 4-5* players with 3* guys will ensure a middle tier SEC program at best. It is what it is.

I agree and they do whatever it takes to get those players. Harbaugh made a lot of news with his camps.

But but but JJ watt was a 2 star guise!

There is wide gulf between an underrated 3 star who should be rated higher and a kid who is properly rated as a 3 star.

I'm not of the belief we can win the SEC with a class full of three stars. Mainly because I don't believe we presently have the staff to develop them into a team that can beat the schools we face on a yearly basis. We are going to have to recruit at or above the level of our competition to ever beat the teams we play on a yearly basis. And that means rarely if ever finishing outside of the top seven in the overall composite recruiting rankings.

I fail to see how folks think we are going to roll out a bunch of second tier players and beat Florida, Georgia & Bama during the regular season. Then add in a rotating opponent from the Western Division (which is usually a top 10 team in our case). Then go on to win the SEC title game. And then go on to win the 4 team playoff. It's fairly clear to me that stars matter, IF we are going to win big. Simple as that.

It all really doesn't matter in the long run because with this fanbase no matter how good the coach is and no matter how good he is recruiting...this fanbase is so damn ungrateful and never satisfied with anything.

Haven't won a SEC title since 1998. We are tired of mediocrity. Tired of coming up short. You must me a " mega fan" who has been just thrilled the last 18 yrs. Lol

I am one of the fans who really like Butch and what he has done for the program. But at some point, you have to look at the facts. The teams that get the elite recruits, win championships.

It's all about talent level (recruiting by the "stars"). Trade Saban for Mark Stoops. Each school keeps the same players on their current roster for the next 3 years...Stoops wins at bama, and Saban don't win at Kenyucky.

Nonsense.

Its not about talent differential as much as coaches have no authority in NFL. No such thing as running a tight ship in the NFL.

I hate Bama but I wish UT would pay 10 or 15 million to get Saban

In my opinion, theres a bigger gap between Saban and other SEC coaches than there is between the players on the upper tier SEC teams

Yes Bama is loaded but the Saban factor is real.

Your opinion of the NFL is nonsense. Cardinals cut a guy for parking in the wrong spot.

Mostly stars.

Satan was crap in Nfl where talent differential is minimal.

There's a ton of college coaches who were excellent recruiters but couldn't coach worth a ****. Saban's stint in the NFL has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not he is a great college football coach.... Arguably the best in college football history.

Name the times he walks on the field with the less talented team.

It's nearly impossible to judge him on Xs and Os. It's not a level playing field. At all. All we can conclude for sure is that he doesn't suck at Xs and Os.

In 5 years at MSU he had one season where he won more than 7 games. Funny what talent does.

If we dont have a major upgrade to this 17 class, its just going to pan out to average class in SEC standards. Were replacing high 4 and 5 star players with high 3 star and low 4 star players. Bottom line is, we want win in the SEC with these kind of recruiting classes! Like you said, its funny what talent does!
