I see you didn't mention Kevin O'Neill. I think he was going to be a really good coach here. Heck, I would take him back. The person in power he often clashed with has been long gone.

He's a good coach and I like him. Plus the fact he's competent removes him from consideration.

Yeah, I dont even think Buzz would come, I mean who would possibly come to a school for 3 million a year, brand new facilities that are second to none in the league, a roster full of untapped talent? I mean let's be honest, It'll probably be a high school coach. Blevins from Bearden MAY come, maybe.

Why would he risk taking a step into our Bermuda Triangle? Only Bruce Pearl could ever be consistent here.

Good lord not the O'Neill argument again. He has been unsuccessful everywhere he has coached. Dude is and never will be a people person. I take Pearl any day of the week and twice on Sunday if not for all the lying and AA trouble so yeah we will probably have a new coach next year but leave O'Neill where he is.

Agree that he shouldn't come near UT again, ut he is very good coach. To have USC even in the Bubble argument is amazing considering the damage Floyd did. The reason O'Neill doesn't have a real record of success is because he never sticks around in a place, which I feel is due to his personality. O'Neill was first mention tongue in cheek though, don't know many who would really want him back

I guess that explains Marquette putting him in their Hall of Fame.

It also explains how Bruce Pearl managed to lose to O'Neill coached teams each of the last two years. Obviously O'Neill is clueless

The guy simply can't coach. He has had the misfortune of going to schools that required major rebuilding, and didn't stay long enough to see the fruits of his labor.

Interesting how he has taken Pearl to school in both meetings with inferior talent. Only Pearl could win here though.

It is proven that both coaches lied. One admitted he lied before release of the news story - the other did not and has not come totally clean yet. Pretty equal on the number of secondary violations per year for each. One university delivered heavy sanctions along with the league - the other slapped the wrist with no league response yet. One cries and pleads for the cameras - the other stoically brushes it off insinuating an "up yours" response.

You either believe that it is OK to average 40+ secondary violations a year and lie to the governing authorities as long as you have an acceptably winning program - or you don't.

I vote buh-bye to both. They both make me sick. Having integrity as a university and program is more important to me. I would rather win by playing by the rules than cheating to win. Example: Who do you have more respect for - Ken Griffey or Barry Bonds? Both had HOF careers if you look at the numbers and what they meant to their teams. We all know which one did it by the rules and which one chose the low road.

Lying by omission is still lying. If Tressel covered it up, and kept the knowledge to himself for months, that is just as bad as lying flat out to the NCAA's face IMO.

Unfortunately the NCAA does not agree. Because they do not have subpoena powers like a federal, state or police agency they have in essence found a way to compel truthful testimony. Lying is their biggest offense, bigger than paying players or academic fraud. Thus few lie to their investigators.

So the questions truly are; did the NCAA investigators talk to Tressel in December when they investigated this, did they ask the right questions and did he lie to them? We know he lied to his school and his administration. But the NCAA considers that an internal matter, all they care about is did he lie to them.

I believe he did and if he did his offense is worse than Pearl's. One lied about a secondary violation to protect a friend and assistant coach, the other lied about majors violations to protect his players and his championship aspirations.

What determines elite, then? 15 out of over 300 is not elite?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

Read read read. No one said he was elite. I said top 15 and the other guy said good.

Top 15 out of 300 or more programs isn't elite?

And you're the last person up in here to harp on comprehension.
