if I’m Danny White I find out what it would take to get Greg McDermott to leave Creighton. The guy’s a fantastic coach and would be an amazing fit after CRB.

Yeah, it may not be possible to get GM to leave Creighton, but that’s where I’d start.

North plains lifer. Born there, played there, and never coached outside of there. I'm sure he's had opportunities and never taken a single one. At 60 years old, I doubt he's interested in much else. We could double his salary, though, so maybe he wants to cash out in his final chapter. Just hard to see.

He’d be an amazing hire but I don’t see it at all. He’s been in the Midwest his whole career and has a great thing going at Creighton. But crazier things have happened, I guess.

Personally, I want us to go for Ben McCollum, Bucky McMillian, Ryan Odom, Alan Huss, Niko Medved, or Tony Skinn. Would love to see us send an offer to Chris Jans as well.

They can have him. He’s a horrible person.

As for McDermott, in the era of the transfer portal and NIL what does him being a “midwestern guy” have anything to do with how successful he’d be here? Did Bruce Pearl have southern roots prior to his hire?

I’ve no idea if McDermott would be interested in the TN job, but I’d make him say no.

It’s not that. It’s just the fact that he’s never left the Midwest, and it’s hard to see him making the move out of the region at age 61.

Again, it’s possible, and we’d be wise to make him an offer. But it’s hard to get a coach like McDermott out of his stomping ground.

Pearl hadn't been in one area his whole life. Born in Boston and went to BC, then has coached in California, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and now Alabama.
He also wasn't 60 years old when he took the Tennessee job. He's not a great example.

I don't think you'll find anyone that would argue that he wouldn't be successful... but he has a good thing going there and has coached in Iowa for 25 years and was born there. I'm sure he's had offers to leave Creighton every year.
