If Barnes were to retire…

Whoever replaces Barnes is gonna be

-age 50 or younger
-A mid-major coach with a high win percentage
-High paced ideals with an innovate offense
-Low maintenance

If anyone else mentions somebody without those four qualifiers, they’re talking out their ass
Exactly. It’s like people completely ignore White’s track record. I’m sure he’ll put out feelers to some “big names” but he’s likely to hire from the profile that you listed. Think Josh Schertz or Alan Huss.

So there are plenty of good coaches that have a resume that compete with Bruce's yet you can't name them?

And this notion that his issues at Tennessee are somehow still a factor is clownish.

Bill Self is still coaching at Kansas
Cal has coached almost 15 years after his issues at Memphis
Roy Williams faced no consequences at UNC
Bruce has been coaching in the SEC for 10 years now

But sure lets try to make something irrelevant that happened over 15 years ago and make it a hot pressing issue...

Once again I ask, name the coaches that are on Pearl's level. You can't
I think you have an overinflated view of Pearl's résumé.

He's only been to the second weekend of the NCAAT 5 times in 13 chances. He's also missed the NCAAT, entirely, 6 times in 19 chances. So, in 19 years of coaching D1, he's got 5 S16s, 2 E8s, and 1 F4.

He's won a lot of games, but if Rick Barnes catches grief for any perceived failure in March, Pearl certainly deserves as much, or more, yet rarely catches any heat from those in our fanbase who thinks he walks on water.

I can't believe you really think Pearl coaching at Tennessee is even an option. People don't lie to their superiors, lie to a governing body, and then conspire with others to lie on their behalf and get a free pass to return to the scene of the crime 15 years later just because time passed.

All of your examples are terrible. Self, Cal, Roy Williams...none of them were ever fired and rehired at the school that fired them. Those are apples and oranges to the situation you're looking to support.

There are other coaches who are great fits for Tennessee...Bruce Pearl isn't the only answer. And there are great fits for Bruce Pearl...Tennessee isn't the only answer.

But to answer your question, there are plenty of other coaches with a better résumé than Pearl, starting with Rick Barnes. But, also...
Bill Self
Tom Izzo
John Calipari
Mark Few
Kelvin Sampson
Rick Pitino
Danny Hurley

Just like Pearl, none of them are coming to Tennessee.

For the record I agree about the shortcomings in the tourney for him at Auburn. I don’t have any issues with Barnes in the post season because regardless of the outcomes, the overall stability of the program is never doubted and the program stays trending up.

No one said he was an option. I simply asked someone who said there were plenty of good options to come here that would have the caliber of Pearl’s record…. And I’m sorry, the people hung up on what Bruce said over 15 years ago are clowns because what he has done since has shown he rehabbed all while leading a conference foe to the same national standing we are.

Now this isn’t an endorsement for him to be pursued. But when someone says “there are plenty of good options we could hire” that are comparable or better than what Bruce has done at Auburn aka the last 10 years, all I ask is for them to be named.

Self is not leaving Kansas
Izzy is not leaving Sparty
Cal is maybe a mercenary coach with a plethora of 5 stars willing to follow him anywhere
Mark Few i think is on the tail end of his career but I would put there with the Pearl’s and Barnes of the world.

Hurley wouldn’t leave to become a gazillionare at the Lakers nor Kentucky. Not sure he’s leaving UCONN but I would be ecstatic as he is the best coach in the game right now.

Pitino is a saint and I hope they go all the way if we get bounced.

I do find it funny there is apparently a massive holier than thou cult here who think Tennessee is the only place in the county where someone can rehab or reunite.

Regardless, I’m still waiting on that poster who said there were “plenty” of options we could hire that would be as big of a splash hire as Bruce. Why won’t he just give a few examples since there are plenty?

RE: your last statement who said that? What was the exact quote? Just curious because Pearl would be one of the splashiest hires for a lot of reasons, but mostly because of the unprecedented nature of him returning to the school that fired him 15 years ago.

What I suspect is being lost in this debate is that it was probably intended to say that there are plenty of other options that would do well at Tennessee besides Pearl. Remember, Bruce Pearl was a nobody when he was hired from UWM. There is another version of 2004 Bruce Pearl out there. You just need an AD with enough foresight and ability to identify talent to find him. I think we have that in Danny White.

Bingo. I don’t know what poster he is referring to, but all I said was there are other good options considering Pearl’s history at UT and his age of 65. Believe it or not, other people can succeed at UT.

The statement that really started it for me:”If Pearl is interested and UT doesn’t entertain it, then they don’t care about winning.” That’s hogwash.

I’m on a flight to the land of the rotten coal miners with very poor wifi. It’s a few pages back but I promise to quote you the post in a bit.

No, it’s not. He is 65 years old. There are many other good options.
Here you go @cncchris33

I have literally been asking him to name the “other good options” that would be on par with the “splash” of Bruce 2.0….. and yet here we are without a list or names.

Just landed in coal mine country and I can see why Cal left.

Yep…and I mentioned what the profile would be. If you don’t understand that there are other good options than Bruce Pearl, then I can’t help you. I even said Oztelberger would be a home run but probably not attainable. I don’t know if you are purposeful with this or just ignorant.

If you're talking about me that's not what I posted. You either can't read, lying intentionally to try and make a point or you have no interest in nuance. Probably a combination of the 3

JMO, but it seems to me that he is acknowledging that there are good options available besides Bruce Pearl (and there are), and then you further qualified the framing of the topic by adding "...that would be on par with the splash of Bruce 2.0".

Texas is about to hire its 4th coach to replace Coach Barnes in the ten years since they pushed him out. And two of those coaches were the “flavor of the year” when they were hired.

Many on here need to remember that the replacement in many instances is not better than the great coach you push out.

Did any of those coaches have a show cause?

And the guy many want to replace him with his had his own share of March disappointments and has teams with horrible culture. It boggles the mind. Good thing the Deacon isn’t retiring.
