...that's because we are.

Take the week before last as an example.

@Vols1313 said Kentucky would beat us, 65 to 7.
@turdherder11 went for Kentucky by 11. As did @volmanNC .
@CAVPUT thought they'd beat us by 8 points.
@captainsword said the Cats by 6.
@Creek Bottom , @jarhead and @37620VOL said by 4 points.
@Johnnyreb#VFL said they'd take us by a field goal.
@zooguy agreed with that, KY by a FG.
So did @crawdaddyjc .

I am not saying these fellas are all trolls. A few are, but most are just nega-Vols.

Point is, there are a vocal minority of folks on these boards who never see the good in our team because they are too focused on complaining about each and every little blemish.

This is the same crew who dismiss any team we beat as a weak team. We never beat any good teams, because the teams we beat are obviously inferior, because we were able to beat them. Sure, that is circular logic, but most trolls and nega-vols like it that way.

And folks like that are always going to underestimate our lads.

Let's lay it on Mizzou this week, send them back to the bowels of the conference alongside Vandy, Kentucky, and USCe. Well, and Florida lately, lol.

Go Vols!

It's a pick score contest. I don't normally play, but when I do, I'll often make a "less crowded" pick just to have a better chance to win, even if I don't think that will be the outcome.

Think it's a bit asinine to act like we're wading through a sea of negativity just because a few posters out of 120 picked the other team to win. I mean ... obviously the guy who picked Kentucky 65-7 is a moron, but none of the others are crazy.

So we are now calling out posters who said we would only beat Kentucky by 3, when in fact we beat them by 6?!
Other way around. They said the Cats would beat us by 3. Which means they were 9 off.

But that's not the point.

Point is, they didn't trust our lads to get the W.

I’m old. I’m Orange. I’m at my best when representing Tennessee. I get the Vol fan in Oregon hit by a thrown hotdog who said good naturedly, “Oh, is this for me?” and proceded to win over the Oregon fans around him. I get the Vol fans who helped push a Bammer family’s station wagon off the soft shoulder onto the road, then spattered with mud, proclaimed it time for a beer. No matter the odds, we always pick the Vols. However they perform in any given game, our support for Tennessee never wavers. GBO.

Then there are the Eeyore types who never get anything right and life never lets them win at anything....or very rarely. Those cats are just cursed. Last thing you want is for them to be picking UT and you'll never see them in Vegas...well...they'll be eating, drinking and seeing shows, but gambling? Never. Smart ones know their lane and stay in it.

You have to see it, DG. There is a ton of negativity on these boards. Especially in weeks we lose.

And not just, "dammit, we lost, I feel bad," negativity. More like, "Fahr this guy, and fahr that guy, and replace these players, they suck," kinds of negativity. Self-destructive levels of negativity.

From a troll, that makes an evil kind of sense. They're just out for schadenfreude. But for actual Vols fans, it's a kind of disease.

I wouldn't be too concerned. Huepel has defied all the odds stacked against him. A few rotten apples aren't going to change that. Just like a few sunshine pumpers weren't going to change the eventual demise of our past coaches failures. If some people want to be miserable or can't see the difference of what Huepel has done, so God help their soul.

So Cavput, you're saying you pick against our lads kind of in the same way another fella might always wear a particular pair of socks or spit over his left shoulder any time he says the word 'orange.'? Like, you're avoiding the curse by intentionally being wrong in a direction that helps us win?

Heh. Okay, if that's your deal, I can kind of get that. I mean, it's a little crazy, but it's crazy in a pro-Vols direction. Gotta appreciate anything done for the lads' benefit.

Go Vols!

This is why when we lose I don’t come on the boards. I know it’s going to be a dumpster fire of ridiculous hot takes with little bearing on reality.

Playing Kentucky away coming off an atrocious 2nd half at Bama. It’s pretty easy to see their thought process. A collapse like that would deflate a lot of teams. Glad our vols came out of Lexington with a gritty road win.

The most common response for a plebe to give at West Point: "no excuse, sir."*

Heh.

Go Vols!

* there are only five acceptable responses for plebes: "yes sir (or ma'am)," "no sir," "no excuse, sir," "sir may I ask a question," and "sir may I make a statement." The last one is often a recipe for self-inflicted wounds, of course. lol.

I don't know that I blame folks. They've endured a lot. Good people who have endured a whole lot. Trash cans. OPPORTUNITYISNOWHERE. 13 men on the field. Running a Prevent defense against JaMarcus Russell when he threw three interceptions because of blitzes earlier in the game. Letting Tim Tebow run draws to the left. Letting Matt Mauck run wherever he damn well wanted. 15 straight losses against those arrogant pricks down south. Losing to Kentucky when they had a converted WR at QB. "Five star hearts." Orange dogs. Getting so low on yourself that you let your coaching staff play Southern Cal highlights in your facilities. "ComplEmentary football." That stupid North Carolina field goal. "A'ight."

Hell, Tennessee ran a commercial on the jumbotron that proudly proclaimed "fear the pants." Fear the *!@*(#&!?! pants. Lord. I still can't.

Vol fans have endured a lot. I just can't blame 'em for needing time to get past that.

But don't you worry. No need to worry at all. Heupel's gonna get 'em living right again.

You want to hear ridiculous, the Bammer fans I live around are complaining after their games because they are not winning by the 35 pts a game they are accustomed to and this Tide team is making them sweat it out into the 4th qtr. And believe it or not there are some idiot Tide fans who are saying Saban no longer needs to be coaching. Now how spoiled is this bunch.

Nah...I'm just a hopeless nega-troll.

I tend to expect the worst but hope for the best. That has helped assuage the disappointment and BVS that's accumulated over the past two decades. That said, I did think we had a good shot against Kentucky, but I don't feel good about this weekend. I'll keep my predictions to myself though! :p

For positive affirmations, chant Vols by Fiddy repeatedly until you feel better about it.
