I don't know that I blame folks. They've endured a lot. Good people who have endured a whole lot. Trash cans. OPPORTUNITYISNOWHERE. 13 men on the field. Running a Prevent defense against JaMarcus Russell when he threw three interceptions because of blitzes earlier in the game. Letting Tim Tebow run draws to the left. Letting Matt Mauck run wherever he damn well wanted. 15 straight losses against those arrogant pricks down south. Losing to Kentucky when they had a converted WR at QB. "Five star hearts." Orange dogs. Getting so low on yourself that you let your coaching staff play Southern Cal highlights in your facilities. "Complimentary football." That stupid North Carolina field goal. "A'ight."
Hell, Tennessee ran a commercial on the jumbotron that proudly proclaimed "fear the pants." Fear the *!@*(#&!?! pants. Lord. I still can't.
Vol fans have endured a lot. I just can't blame 'em for needing time to get past that.
But don't you worry. No need to worry at all. Heupel's gonna get 'em living right again.
Curious what's "complimentary football" in reference to?
It was one of Butch Jones's phrases. It's not that the phrase is bad on its own - I think Heupel's used it a few times too, for example - but if ol' Butch had a Common Phrase Hall of Fame, "complimentary football" would be in the display case alongside all the other things he said.
No complaints from me except the Florida loss this year. I’m still steamed about it. Nothing upsets me more than this ridiculous psychological baggage with Florida. There were NO reasons at all to excuse a loss down there this year. Florida is not a good team at all and there was no excuse for losing to them period. Heupel was also terrible that game. The play calls were horrible and motivating his team to play with urgency was horrible. I don’t get why everyone is so scared of Florida and it really, really makes me angry. Anyway, that is the only negative thought I have about the Heupel era.As a charter NegaVol dating back to the decline of Fulmer, I have to say, I don’t know what people have to gripe about right now. We play an exciting brand of football, we are competing with…and beating our traditional rivals. No game is out of reach. We are living through the early nineties again….we are enjoying the climb back to prominence. There is nothing more enjoyable. Seconding guessing the process to such an extent is merely robbing yourself of that joy.
The only thing that makes less sense to me are threads like this griping about people who gripe. Everybody gets to “fan” however they want.
Who was UTs president after Joe Johnson? Did we have one president during the period when we hired all of these clowns or were there several? It was one of Butch Jones's phrases. We're supposed to trust the team that got beat by Florida? The fact you went to all this trouble to call out posters is really odd. More power to you I guess.Other way around. They said the Cats would beat us by 3. Which means they were 9 off.
But that's not the point.
Point is, they didn't trust our lads to get the W.
Yes, there are a few reverse-jinx posters. Most of those posted are negas, but there are a few who are superstitious. So Cavput, you're saying you pick against our lads kind of in the same way another fella might always wear a particular pair of socks or spit over his left shoulder any time he says the word 'orange.'? Like, you're avoiding the curse by intentionally being wrong in a direction that helps us win?
Heh. Okay, if that's your deal, I can kind of get that. I mean, it's a little crazy, but it's crazy in a pro-Vols direction. Gotta appreciate anything done for the lads' benefit.
Go Vols!
Thanks, Mom.There are many, many beautiful things in the fall,....colors change, cooler weather, less rain (normally), Halloween with kids, Thanksgiving, Christmas just to name a few. Some act like college football is all there is. It isn't. Life is too precious to waste several days focusing on losses or wins. Enjoy the moments - all of them. Just my opinion.
OP is pointing out some extremes here.
There is nothing wrong with having an objective view of the reality that is your favorite team. Although they lead the whole game, I don't think any of use thought that the game was in hand against Kentucky. It wasn't exactly a blowout, dominating performance. Kentucky hung around with the passing game, and the BVS was telling more than one of us that a 83 yard pick six was about to happen to give UK the game.
UT is a team that has managed to win in spite of some deficiencies at important positions, a tip of the cap to the coaching staff.
Mizzou is a good team, Georgia is a good team. Twenty year old me, "Vols are gonna crush them!" Forty-five year old me, "Mizzou is a good team, Georgia is a good team."
