If Jimbo is fired, does this hurt or help Tennessee football in anyway?

I don’t think anything at A&M will impact UT. Dan Lanning seems to be on everyone’s top list but at this point, Oregon is more attractive than A&M now that they move to Big 10.

I think A&M will hire a head coach as coordinators are big risks. Kiffin would work in College Station. Offensive minded coach, who already knows the competitive nature of the SEC. He will field good teams at Ole Miss but they will never be on level field with the big boys. I think he would jump at it if any interest from A&M side.

They may have to hire a young hot shot head coach like Jeff Traylor simply because he is affordable given Jimbo’s buyout.

DJ Durkin will be available on the defensive coordinator side, he can assemble pass defenses, has a fairly stout group at A&M this season, has SEC experience (which Banks has none of) stints at Ole Miss, LSU and Florida, so the speed and motion of the SEC game is not lost on him,

We all knew Martinez was a bad idea from day one and still is, we have given Banks ample opportunity to show up big in a road game that puts Tennessee in a different tier in the SEC and he has not been able to deliver, Heupel's defense has been a concern from the day he got here, but solid defense it is a necessary component of a top tier SEC team,

It benefits us as we can potentially get some transfers or poach some recruits. Outside of that I don't think it matters that much.

The Pearl clutchers in the UT administration will never allow Durkin to coach here. A&M is trying to be Texas. We’re trying to be Vandy.

If memory serves me , Jimbo was the benefit of top recruiting classes almost every year he was at AM. Seems like their QB;s never lived up to the expectations. Every coach in the SEC is on a short leash

One item not mentiined. As i recall the media picked the All-SEC teams after Media Days last summer. We had FOUR players on the first 4 teams. The program has operated under the Fulmer-Germy cloud since JH has been here. Still does not excuse losing to BLM University like we did yesterday but certainly a consideration.

What’s the fallout from a $75 million buyout going to the head coach of the top NIL school in the country? Does the recruiting riches get scattered? Who can benefit from some of the coaching staff leftovers?

Hoping it benefits Tennessee in some way.

I think Tennessee could potentially grab a couple of Texas A&M's 2024 commits .

Might open up some portal opportunities. Any of their OL or DL that we can get I would gladly take. It will be interesting to see who ends up as the next HC.
Finally someone addressing the post. I think it all depends on who they bring in. I would hope we would pounce on some big ugly xfers… but we won’t know that for awhile.

Seems like we would keep an eye on who might enter the transfer portal, I expect several will.

With Texas coming they knew they had to cut ties. He was not getting the job done with the talent he had. I'm guessing they'll go after elko. Seems to be a great up and comer and players love him. I don't think they'll have a lot of attrition with them naming Elijah temp coach. Players love him. The ones that do will prob end up at lsu, bama or Texas

I see A&M whiffing on the coaches they think will answer the phone (Lanning). Any really good coach uses A&M as a blunt force club to beat money out of the school they already coach.
Urban Meyer's name being mentioned is indicative of the expectations.

Then they get around to the Kiffen's and Kingsbury's, who will be very interested.

Lanning has everything he needs at Oregon. He should be on everyone’s list but to me this is a pay raise contract opportunity only to make Oregon pay him long term.

I’m not surprised they fired Jimbo, I’m more surprised they did it after a 51 point win. If anything, do it after a loss or at the end of the season. Doing it now makes me wonder if they have someone on standby.
They fired him as soon as they had another coach lined up IMO.

Gotta get them now before the new coach arrives. It’s an ugly business, but it is the way of the new world.
