If making a bowl is big for next year

The OP make it sound like 6 wins is the goal and it might be in jeopardy if Nico doesn't get the PT in this bowl adequate to start off strong for the 2024 season.

I am afraid we won't see Nico at all, as I think it will be a close game. I am afraid we will have trouble scoring.
That is a good point. My guess regarding Nico’s playing time was based on the assumption that everything goes smoothly and we achieve a relatively comfortable lead and cruise to victory. And that’s obviously a pretty big assumption that I really shouldn’t make.

And people wonder why so many of the younger kids are so entitled. Want to just be handed a starting role even though you've never truly studied the playbook, haven't worked out with the team, haven't been a part of scouting, etc.
How about Moore? I'd say he knows the playback better than Joe. Definately looked better in the spring game and played maybe 10 plays all year.

Exactly. It’s just the worst fan fantasy crap ever lol.
I agree. Sure I want our young guys to get experience, but the experience gained from making a bowl is gained from all the extra practices. To not give senior players, who stuck with us through that Pruitt mess or came over from another school to help with our rebuild, a chance to start and play in the bowl game would be totally classless.

My opinion is that Joe will play 3 series. Show off his arm one more time and the deep ball. Get one passing TD and then hand over the program to Nico

Yes!! Exactly what I'm saying, otherwise it's wasted opportunity for gaining experience
Gain experience in practice and the off-season. Fans have made every excuse for Nico to play in the bowl. Joe is QB1 and will play as long as needed, 4qtrs, injury or blowout.

I wish people would look at the "Likes" that their post get (or rather lack of "Likes") and realize how stupid their post are.

As I joked in another thread, shouldn't we start Merklinger, the newly signed freshman, next year against Chattanooga "to get him game experience?"

Folks wanted true freshman Nico to get experience, why not Merk? Shouldn't he get in games ASAP? Aren't you concerned about winning bowls and championships in 2026? The sooner he gets up to speed in the SEC, the better!

When does it end with you guys?
You’re being a bit ridiculous and I’d bet you’re smarter than you’re acting. 1. Our season was realistically over when we lost at UF. Now I know coach still gets paid to win games, but we were essentially playing for next year once we were out of contention for everything. 2. We were experiencing subpar QB play given our conference and needs at that position. If Joe was lighting it up screams for Nico would’ve never occurred. 3. We are heavily invested in Nico and fully expect him to be the starter next year knowing Joe is gone. So yes, getting him game reps is important. If Joe was playing good and had eligibility left, the cries for Nico wouldn’t have occurred. But you already knew all of this. But yes if it was Nico’s last year and we had already **** the bed, I’d be saying let’s get next years guy some reps. It only makes sense to prepare as much as possible.

I don't want to hear crap from you about "the players have no loyalty" when you essentially say "these last year guys were useless to us after the FL game, so screw them and look to next year."

What a crappy way to look at players. Once we're done with you, screw you and sit down and let us move on.

Again, expect no loyalty from them when you would treat them like garbage if they didn't win enough to suit you.

If we make a bowl and have a winning season it will be 4 seasons straight with a winning record. First time since 2004.

I will say regardless of how next season goes, that it is an accomplishment. The program has been to
the pits of hell and is now on the rebound!

How does playing Milton figure in to that?
Haven't read through the thread but IMO playing Milton may make some casual fans and maybe even hard core mad or disillusioned. But if you want to lose a team by not playing someone that's earned it, and the players know. IMO that would be a start of team division and bad for the culture you are trying to build. The players know and you don't see them on social media putting anything out even the multiple that have portaled and have nothing to lose, if you have played football and practiced all summer and season you know if one player is just better or more ready to play.

You must be living back in 1990s college football still. There is no loyalty. Payments did away with that. It’s the nfl Jr. now. And once again you are picking and choosing what you want to talk about. As I said if Joe was lighting it up it would be a different story. He’s not. Like it or not, UT has 0 to gain playing joe in the bowl. You’ll be the same group bashing Nico next year through his growing pains. We could’ve pushed through some of that this year. We chose not to.

Yeah, that would be great for the locker room. Recall the USCe game in 2022? There were definitely some issues related to Jeremy Banks not playing and the team was beyond flat.

Bench Joe and other seniors mid season because of the FL loss because "they're useless to us now and we're moving to next year's team and going to get them all the reps we can because this year is essentially over now" and lose the locker room completely.

You expect that players would accept the coach just giving up completely on older players once our chance of the playoffs is over because those players won't be back?

News Flash: more than just the older players would be gone via the portal because their coach would be seen as a piece of crap.

Once again building your own narrative. You’re talking amongst yourself at this point. This is more about Joes play than him being a senior or not. Joe hasn’t played at a high enough level to secure that QB spot imo, yet it’s been left on a platter for him by heupel.

There were lots of problems with the USC game. I guess your insider told you what they were about. I’m in the camp of banks never should’ve been here anyway after his “ we do X to cops in Memphis” shenanigan. But that’s a whole different conversation. Cancer is always just that, cancer. Culture is not just a word, it has meaning.

Newsflash. Joe underperformed this year. We should be rewarding people for playing, not just bc they’ve been here 11 years even if they are a class act. Joe has been. I just refuse to believe someone else couldn’t have gave us that same below average play and gained reps for next year. I guess we will see next year.

What you're suggesting isn't about Joe, it's about Heupel. If you think he's playing Joe despite Nico being better, that's not about Joe.

Next year and all other years won't be different if you're correct. Heupel isn't the guy.

You say it plainly:
I just refuse to believe someone else couldn’t have gave us that same below average play and gained reps for next year.
In other words, you think Heupel won't do what it takes to help the team. That's a fine opinion, but it's about Heupel, not Joe.
