With all the rumors flying around on when CDD will be fired everyone seems to have a list of who they would like to see as the next UT coach. These coaches seem to be on a lot if not most everyone’s list. If offered do you think they would accept the job? Some seem more likely than others to me, just wondering what VN thinks.

Gruden
Patterson
Petrino
Petersen
Tressel
Strong
Mullen
Franklin
Tuberville
Cutcliffe
Smart

Gruden
Patterson
Petrino - Kentucky
Petersen
Tressel
Strong - Arkansas
Mullen
Franklin
Tuberville
Cutcliffe
Smart - Auburn

I would take 3 off the list right off the top.

I will give it a shot...

Gruden - No
Patterson - It would take $5-6 million
Petrino - Yes, but the good lord would hit Knoxville with a tornado
Petersen - No, his special needs child needs to stay in Boise
Tressel - Funny
Strong - Yes
Mullen - Yes
Franklin - Yes
Tuberville - Yes, but too old to start over
Cutcliffe - Yes, but too old to start over
Smart - Yes

You cannot ask Franklin, because if, for some unforeseen reason, he turns the job offer down and remains at Vandy, we will NEVER...HEAR...THE END OF IT.

I don't want Petrino, Strong or Franklin. Not convinced on Smart but he'd be worth a shot. He could keep Sal as LB coach

Gruden - No and that's both Jon and Jay
Patterson - Maybe, but did Hamilton burn the bridge
Petrino - Yes, but do we really want him though
Petersen - No
Tressel - No, his record against SEC teams isn't the best anyway and UT doesn't need to be put under the microscope
Strong - Yes, but does 9-1 in the Big East = success at UT
Mullen - Probably not, he believes he is building something at Miss St
Franklin - Maybe, but can the fanbase accept a Vandy coach and live with his attitude
Tuberville - Yes, but what will happen to him after what he did Saturday
Cutcliffe - No, why would he
Smart - Probably, but we already have more crimson here than we need

See above

Petersen doesn't have a special needs child. Petersen's kid had a couple of tumors removed 13 years ago while Petersen was coaching at Oregon. All the kid's treatments took place in Oregon. Kid is fine now and receives no special treatment in Boise.

The thing is, these days, you don't just offer guys the job. You have to determine who the right guy is and then actively recruit them to your school. That's what Alabama did with Saban and that's what Florida did with Meyer. We have to get past the Mike Hamilton method of just calling guys up and saying "Hey, want to come work for me?" and just taking the first guy who says "Yes". A good AD could sell UT to the right coach.

That said, Dave Hart probably isn't a good AD, so I'll just hope Patterson somehow says yes, or, at the very least, Franklin gets called before Tuberville, Cutcliffe, and all the other old coach retreads.

Gruden (NO)
Patterson (NO- Still can't believe he is considering Arkansas!)
Petrino (WON'T OFFER HOPEFULLY WE LEARNED FROM DRAMA KIF)
Petersen (NO)
Tressel (DON'T OFFER!)
Strong (YES)
Mullen (NO)
Franklin ( IF HART IS THIS DUMB HE NEEDS TO PACK WITH DOOLEY)
Tuberville (I'M NOT A FAN OF AUBURNS SLOPPY SECONDS)
Cutcliffe (YES- BUT WE SHOULDN'T OFFER)
Smart (DON'T OFFER)

I hope it is a known commodity, however I am afraid we are gonna be let down.

Gundy
Stoops

I know we rely on Jimmy H. way to often but these two coaches are ready for a change of scenery.

Do have to believe that if Patterson is listening to Arkansas he would consider Tennessee!
