If offered, would they come....

$$$ = money offered is more than he is currently making or counter-offered
Demands = who he has to retain, who he can hire, personal buyout, other team buyout, and UT buyout clauses, length and incentives embedded in the contact, etc...

Gruden = probably headed to the NFL

Patterson = may come if $$$ and demands are met. Chance to go to major conference might sway him.

Petrino = Would probably jump at any HC position especially in the SEC. $$$ and demands not a problem here, under the circumstances. Has great HC abilities, but his personal issues have many asking if he should be considered as a HC candidate.

Petersen = May jump at a chance to coach in a major conference like the SEC. it would take major $$$ and demands being met though.

Tressel = write off the list. Due to NCAA sanctions, he cannot coach for several more years.

Strong = Would probably jump at chance to coach in the SEC. Would take major $$$ and demands being met, because Louisville's AD will do his best to keep Strong.

Mullen = Already coaching in the SEC. However, if $$$ and demands met, he might come to UT for the facilities and other recruiting tools. However, MSU would probably try to meet our offer in order to keep him.

Franklin = Already coaching in the SEC, although a lower tier football program. Would take major $$$ to get him. Many do not like his aloof attitude.

Tuberville = Would probably jump at the chance to return to the SEC. Would take $$$ and demands being met. He has SEC experience, and has shown that he can win.

Cutliffe = Would possibly love to return to the SEC. May come for less $$$ than some of the others on the list. Would still have to have his demands met. Even with his strong UT ties, I might place him toward the bottom of the list due age, and HC W/L record.

Smart = If $$$ and demands are met, he would probably jump at the opportunity to be HC in the SEC.

Gundy = A name I would add to the list. However, as with some others on the list, it would take major $$$ and demands being met for him to leave OK State.

If you hire Smart ... your just hiring another Dooley and Sal. It seems anyone Saban plugs into his staff he makes look awesome. Like Alabama ... Tennessee needs to find a head coach that players would drool to play for. Saban= Belichick ... teams try to duplicate there success but never can.

No one disagrees with that--but getting it done is the trick.

Many people think all we gotta do is ask anyone out there and they would jump at the chance to come. Unfortunately, that's not the way it works now.

The only viable UT Alumni in coaching other than Gruden that would even be close to being a head coach in college is Tee Martin and he is no where close to being ready to take a job like Tennessee.

Good Lord , love Tee but he was a qb coach in High School 4 - 5 years ago

With all the rumors flying around on when CDD will be fired everyone seems to have a list of who they would like to see as the next UT coach. These coaches seem to be on a lot if not most everyone’s list. If offered do you think they would accept the job? Some seem more likely than others to me, just wondering what VN thinks.

Gruden
Patterson
Petrino
Petersen
Tressel
Strong
Mullen
Franklin
Tuberville
Cutcliffe
Smart
4 of them not the one that we all want.
