If Ohio State beats Michigan

OSU has a far, far superior offense to UG and their defense is rated top 5....... And they haven't even had some of their top playmakers like Jaxon Smith Njigba (who hasn't played hardly at all this season) and are saving for the Michigan game and beyond.

Their defense is rated top 5 because they play against high school teams all year…

Did USC have to go to overtime to beat a 4 loss Pitt team equivalent?

USC may have 1 loss and a conference title.

TN may have 1 loss and no conference title.

While our offense has been incredible, our D has had struggles.

I don't follow USC at all but I'm unsure they've struggled against teams they should've smoked like we did against Pitt.

Thus far they’ve lost to the only ranked opponent they played… & we’ve played multiple ranked opponents and beat all but 1 of them and that one is ranked 1… so there is that…

My concern is a very narrow Michigan loss on the road (which isn’t far fetched in $hit weather) only drops them to four, w/TCU winning out & sneaking in as a 3.

An undefeated USC w/a PAC12 Championship is also a threat, but I think a 1loss Michigan is more so.

We were ranked 1 and lost to the then ranked 3 and fell to 5, don’t see how 2 losing to 3 doesn’t also fall to 5 or further…

Agreed and I'm just trying to remove the orange glasses to look at what the committee sees.

I'm not at all thinking USC could have a better resume than UT but they may have a conference championship and a squeaker loss.

I'm hoping they lose, TCU loses, and.....ugh.... Ohio State beats MI by 3 TDs.

Personally I would love to see Michigan lose to Illinois, then beat osu like a drum to end the year… also a tcu loss to Baylor, usc to drop their last 2 to both UCLA & ND, Clemson to lose to NC State and beat UNC in the Acc championship… and uga to stay undefeated… that last one was painful to type…

If your plan plays out, the committee would be in a mess trying to sort out the one loss teams.
I think they would probably go like this:
UGA
UT
MICHIGAN
TOSU

Michigan won't lose to Illinois, but they won't beat Ohio State (hopefully) so they're out. Michigan beating Ohio State and USC winning out is my nightmare scenario.

A one loss Ohio State could get in over TN and a one loss USC also might be a problem.

Bahaha the kids won't understand that one from the citrus bowl and Ohio state
For the kiddos we beat Ohio state in Mannings sophomore year 95, one loss tennessee took on qb Bobbie Hoying, heisman winner Eddie George, and Orlando Pace, in the citrus bowl.
We beat Ohio state and they claimed we wore basically longer cleats for traction. Kept Eddie George in check though. Thanx to Bill Duff
Cooper had a fit

I think Ohio State is lying in wait for Michigan very much like Georgia was 2 weeks ago with us. Sleep walking through their last couple of games with a sorta close call at Penn State—which they still won handily.

Michigan/OSU really is a different animal when it comes to rivalries. Even the SEC doesn’t have anything that compares. It’s the greatest rivalry in all of sports.

It's pretty subjective, just depends on what one deems a good rivalry. I don't consider it even the best rivalry in sports but am curious as to why you think so. Genuinely. I have friends in families in both states and the dislike they have for each other is certainly very strong.

If Tenn gets in it will be Ga. vs Tenn in the first round so there won't be an SEC vs SEC in the championship. The rest of the country hates the SEC because we kick A$$.

Why would a one loss Ohio State get in before us? Ain't no way. The loser of that game is out.

What? Ridiculous.

Because they, like Bama has and like Ohio State has in the past also, get a "bump" sometimes. Also, Ohio State has been in the top 10, at least, all year.....has TN?

Obviously, coaches, writers, and others who poll have rated Ohio State as one of the top teams all year. Has TN been rated like that all year?

Resumes matter.

Refresh my memory, who played in last year's championship game???? GA and Alabama?

Does anyone have the ratings for last years CF championship game. I’m thinking it was down a little because sans the South not much of the country wanted that game. It’s like someone else earlier stated ratings mattered, it = money which is the TVs total objective.

The rivalry itself is just like any other rivalry. But I believe the lore behind it has embedded itself into American culture like few others have--I think it has become synonymous with rivalries. You ask a casual fan the biggest rivalry in college football? They'll say Michigan/OSU. Basketball? They'll say Duke/UNC. Baseball? Red Sox/Yankees. It's not that the games are always greater or the teams are always better, it's simply that it has reached a point where when people think "rivalry," they think of those I listed. I think of it like the fact that Babe Ruth is the greatest baseball player to ever play. It's not true (the answer is Barry Bonds, btw) but it has become a thing of legend and a general consensus to the point where it is simply considered fact.

So when I say the SEC doesn't have anything that really comes close, I mean it in that sense. Of course Bama/Auburn or UT/Georgia or LSU/Florida are equally heated and a great rivalry. They just don't garner the same national intrigue of a Michigan/OSU.

Yeah we'll just have to riot if they keep Michigan or OSU in after a loss. Since their only win is Penn State.

We were ranked as the #1 team in the country at one point in the season by the only group that matters, so the answer to your question is "yes". Since then, we've had one more loss than Ohio State. If they lose at home to a team that's worse than Georgia, they aren't going to be ranked ahead of us, whose loss came on the road to the #1 team in the country.

It would be Georgia vs TCU if TCU gets in. No reason to give Ohio state the bye week. Georgia earned it.
I hear that, but I don't think the committee is going to bump TCU down below us after winning the Big 12 Championship Game while we were sitting at home eating popcorn.
