If our OL cannot protect well this year ...

then hold on to your hats kids cause just think how much better we'll be without Mays and Spraggins next year.

My tongue has poked a hole through my right cheek.
We will miss Mays. But it would help to have more talented guys, not just older. The only premium portal guy we’ve gotten is Heard who is likely to be really good next year once he can get in great shape. We take bargain bin guys and I’d rather play our young talent and get better as the year progresses. That includes Sanders.

Not many of you all talking about Bennett Warren, dude should be a beast. He was very highly rated. He should be getting stronger right now. We have recruited more talent upfront no excuse for GE not to be developing the freshman and sophomores we have no as well as the group coming in. We have to continue to get bigger and stronger.GBO

Instead of portaling for guys, how about develop the ones you have? It's unbelievable GE has been unable to develop any players that he's recruited to TN in the 4 years hes been here.
So I guess he didn't develop the Mays brothers/Spraggins? Dayne Davis was a walk on and now makes a significant contribution. Campbell?

We've largely the same OL unit for a couple years, let's not assume the guys behind them aren't ready to go next year. They might be even better. You guys are just NEGAS.

GE didn't recruit Mays and Spraggins, but who do you think has developed them the last four years?
Mays is just one of those that even a bad coach can’t mess up.
Not sure Spraggins is a ringing endorsement for GE????

I suspect we will be just like the previous 3 years. 1 or 2 good OL and 3 that shouldn’t be starting here.

Actually we will be fine. Johnson and Umarov will be ballers. We will pick up a portal gem or two with our deep NIL pockets too.

Satterwhite is the guy next year. There’s no reason so far to think he won’t be up to the task. That said, there will be some drop-off because you’re going from a 5th year senior to a true sophomore.
I think this is right. I thought Vyson Lang would be the next center but Satterwhite seems to have passed him. Umarov seems to be targeted for guard. I would like to see Satterwhite get some work against UTEP and Vandy (assuming we get an early lead).

Why? Spraggins has been the worst pass protector we have. There are more talented players waiting…they’re just young and undeveloped. Perry, Satterwhite, Ginther, Warren, Anderson, and Umarov are all fantastic prospects. Jeremiah’s Heard is too, but may need more seasoning.

I think next year’s OLine will be better. Because it has more talent. The only position I see a drop off is at Center because Mays is a stud. BUT the staff is high on Satterwhite, so it may not be a huge drop. Think of it as a drop from 2024 Mays to 2021 Mays.

When we lost our entire secondary after 2023, folks were saying we’d be bad back there. But we aren’t. We’re much better. Because we lost mediocre players and replaced them with good players. In the case of the OLine, we’re losing a mediocre RT (to be fair, he was better last year when he was healthy and playing LT), an average RG, and a very good Center. Heard will be back ant LT and should be much improved. Karic could get an extra injury year. I’m excited to turn the page on the OLine.
I think the early concerns about Heard were misplaced. His injury was worse than reported and he was not in playing shape when he returned. He has definitely progressed IMHO.

Challenge next year will be the lack of senior leadership - we essentially wiffed on an entire class during the coaching transition and have no juniors on the OL this year.

Awfully hard for a true freshman to play on the OL in this league. Having weight is one thing. Strength is quite another. Older defensive linemen will bully a big kid right out of HS with superior strength, technique and experience. We've tried it a few times with mixed results. Sanders might be the exception, but I kinda doubt it.
Trey Smith did alright as a true freshman

I'm not worried about it. Heard has been good since getting healthy and Karic has a 6th year of eligibility remaining if he chooses to use it, so the left side of the line should be fine.

At RG we should have Umarov back, who was projected to see a lot of playing time this year before getting hurt. At RT we'll see a competitive between three giants: Larry Johnson III, Bennett Warren and Jeremias Heard. Jeremias is the most athletically gifted OL on the roster. At center I've got no reason to think Lang and Satterwhite aren't viable options. It projects like:

LT: L. Heard
LG: Karic
C: Lang/Satterwhite
RG: Umarov
RT: LGIII/Warren/J. Heard

If you get a portal guy that's a bonus. If Sanders comes in ready to play that's a bonus. If Reddick, Bussell, Anderson, Duncan, Perry, Grant, or Ginther decide they want to make a career out of playing football that's a bonus.

That being said, none of Elarbee's HS recruits have been good - so I think it's fair to doubt guys like Lang, Satterwhite, Umarov, Warren, etc.
Karic is a senior don't believe he has any eligibility left. There is only 2 recruits left on team from CGE's 1st class. Of the other 2, 1 is starting at Ark and the other has played in 8 games for UNCC. Lang, umarov, and LJ3 are the second class it is still to early to call them busts and failures as they are only sophomores. Not to many sophomores playing o-line in the SEC. 2025 will go a long way in telling us how good CGE is at developing o-linemen.

We’ll have to see how things go with Karic. He only played 4 games a freshman in 2020 so I’d think he could claim a true redshirt for that year and still have a Covid year of eligibility remaining.

2020- redshirt
2021- FRrs
2022– SOrs
2023- JRrs
2024- SRrs
2025- Covid SR
