If Peyton Manning was QB this year?

He lost the heisman, broke some school and conference records, and won an SEC title, that's pretty average. Peyton is a vol great no doubt and will go down as one of the best if not THE best in NFL history but he didn't make quite the splash in college as he has in the NFL.

Un-Freaking-Believable! :banghead2:

Yeah I had a fairly average college career too, don't remember getting a street named after me though!

it appears VFLCodyGBO was 4yo when Manning graduated so I'll cut him some slack. Of course he should probably do himself a favor and just duck out of this thread for fear it will be used against him in a future competency hearing

I agree.

An average college quarterback is almost always a four year starter in the top football conference in college. Nearly all of them are projected as the No. 1 overall draft pick after their junior year only to return for their senior year despite that fact and STILL get drafted number one in the next draft. That's average.

The SEC player of the year is nearly always average.

Back in the day, just about any quarterback finished Top 10 in the Heisman voting THREE TIMES!! And was the front runner for a whole season only to hosed by a media backlash. That's average for sure.

In fact, isn't the Davey O'Brien Award given to most average quarterback in college football? Must be, 'cause Peyton won it.

Maybe you weren't around then, very young or perhaps you have a short memory. Otherwise I can't begin to explain how you would make such a statement.

I'm with you, Manning was and is the true definition of VFL. Also, he did it the right way on and off the field.

The experienced Peyton of today or the Peyton that had a fairly average collegiate career of the past? I feel like both would have struggled due to our WR issues.

39-6 as a starter, 11,000+ yds, 89 tds, SEC title, played in the National Champ game as a senior, heisman trophy finalist and maxwell award winner as a senior..... fairly average???

Is VFLCODYGBO a new screen name for the infamous CODYG10?

I can see calling him overrated . . . But average? Even if you think he is overrated, you have to concede he was a top 20 college QB of all time instead of a top 5 QB.

Which side are you arguing for? That he was not average as the poster said which means you're pro Peyton, or that he was overrated and not a Top 5 QB but instead a top 20 QB which is kinda the opposite.

Stop. So getting the 2nd most votes for being the best college football player in the country is average and not making a splash?

Holding virtually every SEC passing record by the time he graduated UT isn't making a splash?

Winning 39 games and losing 5 in the SEC isn't making a splash?

Winning an SEC title isn't making a splash?

Do you have any idea how ridiculous your posts in this thread are? You should probably just fade away from this thread now ... you have 0 credibility.

What about Tony Robinson in 85 anybody remember, last time I saw him he was doing a line running down the sideline ON CRUTCHES in the 86 Sugar Bowl what a waste of talent.

If you honestly think he "didn't make quite the splash in college" then you were either not yet born or just not paying attention. Peyton Manning was absolutely one of the hottest names in college football at the time. He brought more national attention to the UT program than any player had in a generation if ever.

And to top it off, the publicity associated with Peyton Manning as Tennessee's quarterback contributed significantly to several bumper crops, i.e. highly rated recruiting classes, that culminated the year after Peyton's graduation in a national championship.

I guess average is all relative. For instance, on an intelligence level this post is well below average. On an entertainment level, this post is way above average.

Players with fairly average collegiate careers don't end up the first overall draft pick in the NFL.

I really wish we could get back to that level of mediocrity from our QB's.
