If the Bashers are so smart?

Alright I have read and listened to enough bashers without speaking my mind. That is about to change. If you people think you know SOOOO much then why are you sitting behind the computer and not an AD at some college? I will be honest I wasn't the happiest person when I heard who our hire was, but I am a VFL and I am going to support CBJ all the way. I am aware that opinions are like rear ends and everyone has one, but sometimes it's taken a little too far. I am a student at UT and I can probably say I have more invested in this than most of you unless your related or close friends to a coach or player. If you have a negative opinion, then do the Vols a favor and don't type it for the world to see. I am 100% certain that maybe not all, but a portion of parents of future players check these message boards and I personally wouldn't want a child to play for a fan base that's all in one minute and lacking support the next. If you feel the best thing for you is to not attend games next season then don't go. That's your right as a citizen, but don't bash the team or coaches before you even see the product that is displayed on the field. I am ALL VOL and I hope you are as well. GO VOLS!

Maybe because they make more money than an AD does or maybe their job doesn't depend on the performance of somebody else. If a parent or player makes a decision based on what they read on a message board they aren't smart enough to make a logical decision anyway.

Actually whats juvenile is blowing the mans twitter up before he is even introduced and ones continuining to bash him and he has done nothing wrong but take the best job in college.

Agree. They're both childish and illogical imo.

Either support Coach Jones or shut up with your negativity. Coach Jones must be doing something right he turned down three jobs to take the Tennessee job. Mark it down he will do great. Please give him a chance he has only been here 48 hours. Support Coach Jones & Tennessee Vols or find another team to bash. The more I read on Coach Jones the more excited I get. He wanted this job that makes a difference.

Don't tell people to find another team because they aren't all giddy about a hire. Both positive and negative opinions matter just the same. I would venture to say that everyone loves the Vols and wants the best for the team. However, everyone has their own expectations.

I do agree with you on this, I have bashed Dooley plenty the last yr or so. But the ones saying they wont support UT and are gonna find someone else to pull for do deserve to be told that.

Holy ****! I just liked a champy post. Hell hath frozen over.

But I agree with him on Hart. Nothing against CBJ(I hope he succeeds), but when an AD has to fall to his fifth or sixth choice, he's not a very good AD.

I'm no CBJ basher, in fact I think he's a fine coach that has a chance to be successful at TN if he recruits well, but you people that keep telling everybody to shut up or find another team need a nice big glass of shut the hell up yourselves.

Also"wanting the job" makes absolutely no difference at all in regards to performance. Hell, Dooley wanted the job, how'd that work out ?

we'll see where we are at in a year or two, the fact that I have to say that means that this was a sub-par hire.

Really? Saban didn't set the world on fire when he first arrived in Tuscaloosa either...or at LSU. Tell us all, Nostradamus what you think the future holds for us? Coach Jones is OUR coach and I will support him as long as he's at the University of TENNESSEE

Dooley didn't have any other options though lol. At least Coach Jones did

No, because the premise of the argument is that unless you actually served in xyz role, you have no right to critique the person in xyz role. Really? So I can't be critical of Obama because I've never been POTUS? Ridiculous.
No, you are just stupid in general.

I'll reserve my right to judge until about halfway through next season. Seeing as how good coaches can show significant progress through the first season I don't think thats unreasonable. Dooley did the dirty work in making this a much better program than before, but he had no idea how to improve on the field performance.

Because of that Jones will start the offseason with pretty good players and should be able to go at least .500 in the SEC next year with what he has in the cupboard. That's not unreasonable and if he doesn't I'll start complaining about his coaching abilities

2010

Some in the fanbase: "We just hired someone with a losing record in the Sun Belt. This is clearly a terrible hire."

Others: "No!! Hes a great hire because Hamilton hired him and he knows more than you!! You should go back to your AD job oh wait you dont have one!!"

How'd that turn out?

Who are these good players? They are all graduating or leaving early for the draft. We are lucky to win A SEC game next year. 4-8 My friend.

By this logic only coaches and members of the athletic department are able to voice opinions. The rest of us must watch in silence and never speculate. Unless our message is positive ! The ol' totalitarian approach to football.

FWIW I think that this very well could be a good hire. Just hate the logic of the OP . ...I was on the other side of the tracks with CDD...thought it was a dumb hire. I am willing to listen to those with 'negative opinions' I may learn something or consider things from a new angle.

Here's pretty much how I evaluate a coach (in no particular order):
1. Record before he got there vs. record with him
2. Conference record
3. Conference titles
4. Record in rivalry games
Winning big games you shouldn't is another one, but I have no idea which games Central Michigan should and should not win.

For Jones at Central Michigan:
1. 10-4 pre-Jones, 11-2 when he left.
2. 20-3 vs. the MAC.
3. 2 outright conference titles
4. 3-0 against Western Michigan

My take: Kelly did go before him, but he still looks great at this point. You could say that Kelly left the program before he peaked there, but Jones took them to heights (11-2, 8-0 in the MAC) Kelly never reached.

At Cincinnati:
1. 12-1 Sugar Bowl team pre-Jones, 9-3 now.
2. 12-9 in the Big East.
3. 2 shared conference titles
4. 2-1 against Louisville

My take: This is a lot more underwhelming. People just kind of accept that Jones has "2 titles," but both of them were three- or four-way tie kind of deals. Never was his team actually the one invited to a BCS bowl as Big East champion. He only beat one team with a record better than 7-5, and it was Miami (OH) - not really seeing any surprise victories out of Jones.

Overall, 12-9 in the Big East sticks out to me as Jones now moves to the SEC. Those looking for positive signs can certainly play up the CMU record, because it is impressive, but given his lack of signature wins I have a really hard time seeing him beat the likes of Saban/Miles/Spurrier/Sumlin/Richt/Muschamp. And that's exactly what we need to do.

Idk why I quoted you in that post, I wrote it for myself more than anyone else but it did help me organize my thoughts on the hire. I think the Big East is where he kind of leveled out, and where he belongs.

Based upon where our program currently is in relativity we needed a homerun hire at a minimum, we instead went with the bunt. I hope it works out for us but until I see a noticable improvement in SEC play, the jury is still out on this hire.

The folks that are out-right bashing BJ and sending him ugly tweets are certainly in the wrong. But, please don't lump those of us who express concerns over this hire into the "bashers" category. Cautiously optimistic is the best way to be right now.

You have been a basher before, Has the leopard changed his stripes ?
