If this is the beginning of the end of Heupel at Tennessee—his executive decision to continue to play Joe Milton in 2023 is what prevented a breakout

Truly should have been to obvious to anyone that knows ball. I think Michigan told Milton it would be best if he looked elsewhere because they knew right away he just wasn’t going to be able to put it together. And if you can’t make it at Michigan at QB you have to be really bad.

I only think a couple of people know what I'm about to tell you so it's sorta a secret.

Milton is in the NFL.

Be specific. Where are these significant loses. We have both corners, QB, maybe our RB, TEs, starting LBs, numerous guys who were basically starters on the dline.

I think you’re just trolling. But if I’m wrong, be specific. Where are these issues?
We’re losing Pearce. Simmons. Pili.

Sampson. Thornton. Mays.
There was a whole lot of us on this forum calling for Nico to play last year once we lost games early and was pretty much out of NC contention. There was no rationale for keep playing Milton except we were told JH was "loyal " to JM. And many of us on the forum predicted that Nico's lack of playing would be a negative this year and it certainly has.
how Heupel didn’t see this is baffling. It was glaringly obvious. And I think you could pull a post from my history that said something quite similar.

I went to Tennessee because that was my expectation. That was the historic mean. Just because Mike Hamilton was a weirdo and a terrible AD and hired terrible coaches doesn’t mean we should expect Tennessee to be that forever.
I don’t disagree about Hamilton and crew. But historically we are a top 10-15 program (not top 5). In another context we have one 10 games 21 times in our history. Heupel has 10% of those in a 4 year span.

We had a terrible draw (probably the top team in the playoff - no one is beating them if they play like that) and played terrible on top of that.

Everyone is wrong…speculate coordinators, coaches ,schemes and conspiracy theories. The bottom line as long as their are azzes in the seats and 15 to 20 thousand lined up after that nobody is going anywhere.

Love Josh Heupel. He’s done some great things for us. Couple of head scratching decisions. The biggest one being—not having Nico ready to roll in 2023.

Joe Milton was never a major starting QB. Michigan saw it right away. He has great tools, a great young man, and a great teammate.

But the way this season played out is precisely why he should have had Nico hitting the field as early as possible.

Nico played his ass off against Ohio state but it was obvious he wasn’t ready for game speed for much of this season.

don’t want to be a Debbie Downer but next year won’t be a playoff year. And then we have no idea what our schedule will look like the following year, but I think it’s going to get more difficult to recruit and this may be the high water mark of Heupel as our head coach.

I hope it’s not. But it’s going to be difficult to get back to where we were this year.

Fun year. Proud we made the playoffs. Should have had Nico ready for rush run after it was obvious Joe Milton wasn’t the guy. Instead we rode Milton for the entire 2023 season and missed the opportunity to really make progress in 2024.
We'll be back next year. I believe in CJH. No reason to give up a good thing because of that game. It's been great since he became our coach any I don't want to be in a ****** coaching search anytime soon

Ohio State probably won’t beat Oregon. And they’ll get beat hard by Texas if they get by Oregon. This is a team that lost to Michigan at home. We just weren’t ready and this game should have been in Knoxville.

@Freak can you put this thread out of its misery

No one should ever speak out against the hive mind ever. No opinions. No discussion. Ohio state was just automatically a better program than us and we shouldn’t have even played the game. We should have zero expectations. Georgia is god tier program. And we should end football.

We’ve been on both sides of the tracks. I like it on this side better. IMO, with what CJH has done in 4 years has earned him the grace to keep working to get it right. The balls in his court though, and he has to be wise enough to see what there can be versus what he has. I really am proud of the team though. To win 10 games in the SEC with what we seen Sat night deserves an Emmy. I want to win to the point that it’s not healthy, but I dang sure don’t want to relive pre-Heupel & post Fulmer ever, ever again.

lol based on what
Based on track record. He's won one decent road game in 4 years, that being at Baton Rouge. He's literally crapped the bed on every other opportunity against good opponents. And he hasn't come close to beating UGA yet. So there's about a 90% chance he loses all 3. He'll lose another one he's not supposed to as well because, well, he's proven he'll do that too. So 8-4 looks likely next year.

The OL and DL both have to be seriously revamped, as well as we need WRs badly. Not sure we'll be as good at RB next year either. Secondary will be solid but they're coached poorly so who knows there. LBs should be about the same.

All that said, there are a lot of questions going In to next year as to how good this team can be. I just don't see it being as good as this year's team.

Goodness…there must not be any egg nog left in VolNation.

I’m impressed at how the craziness just seems to grow and grow after a loss.

A lot of you folks might want to consider prescription meds.
When you win, you take it and go to the next game.
When you lose, you wonder why things went wrong, and move on.
When you get blown out, and it’s the last game, you have more time to evaluate deeply the whole season, and look at what caused the blowout.

Lmfao you also predicted we’d lose to Vandy. So forgive me if I place 0 value on your opinion.

You even stated our teams most likely outcome was 7-8 wins
