If we lose to Georgia

I think if we lose to Georgia then we no longer control our own destiny (duh) and IMO Georgia would have to win the SEC championship (likely vs. Bama) for us to get back in mix. If we lose to Georgia and Georgia loses to Alabama in SECC (for their only loss) and Bama's only loss is to us. I think we are left out. That would really seem unfair if that happens.

So first and foremost, it is preferable to beat UGA and go undefeated than to lose to them. If we do, we obviously must handle business and finish the year 5-1.

The thing that I think really helps us, though, is we have, in theory, run the gauntlet of the schedule. Only 1 game remains that we will not be, not only a favorite, but considerable favorite in. Many of the other contenders have not done it yet and have more backloaded schedules.

-Ohio State: Still has Penn State on the road and Michigan. But to me, they have the third easiest path to the playoff.
-UGA: They have the second easiest path to me. Only way they don’t make it is if they lose to us and the West Champ beats us in the Championship.
-Michigan: Still has OSU, Illinois and MSU. Illinois probably won’t beat them, but it’s definitely a trap game. MSU does suck, but they still will give Michigan everything they’ve got. OSU will be extremely tough for them to win. A beat down by either team on the other is what we should be rooting for.
-Clemson: Cupcake schedule, they will be in. Easiest path, to me. However, they have not looked like a championship level team to me. Should’ve lost to Wake and almost choked to FSU.
-Bama: Still has Miss State, Ole Miss, LSU and Auburn. It is going to be tough for them to win out, but not unlikely. But unless they win the SEC, I don’t see them getting in over us if we are 11-1. If we lose to UGA, run the table and they are 11-2, we are in as the 4th seed.

If I had to pick the playoff today, it would be:
1. UGA
2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
4. Tennessee

When we beat Kentucky and lose to Georgia in a competitive match. Do you think we fall out of the top 4?
If that happens and we win out otherwise, we’re making the playoffs as the number 4, or even possibly 3.

We all need to be Syracuse fans Sat. If they beat Clemson we are a lock for the playoff........Another scenario would be if UGA beats Bama, then it would be UGA, Clemson, OSU or Michigan, and UT. If Bama, UT, and UGA all have one loss I would be worried. So definitely root for the Orangemen. Our SOS would be much better than other one loss teams such as the Big Ten runner up; TCU, UCLA, USC, Syracuse, Oregon, etc.

Kentucky is out for revenge for last season just about every time we play.
Unless we just play stupid and have a bunch of turnovers, we beat Kentucky by 3 scores. They're not that good...even with Levis who may not be able to finish the game.

Still gotta win an easy one this weekend with no issues and then we have to face a hungry Kentucky team which will be tough. They always bring their best and it’s a classic trap game. Conference opponent after a cupcake and before a really big game. Kentucky would LOVE to knock us off in Neyland. Best believe Stoops is bringing the heat but I have full trust that Heupel will have our guys focused.

Fall out of the top 10
By losing to the #1 team in the nation? Likely wouldn’t fall out of the top 5 too many one lose teams and we would have the best loss

At UGA too! Theoretically speaking, shouldn't the #3 TN team lose to the #1 team at their house. Maybe we should not drop in ratings at all, assuming it's a close game.;)

If we take a punch in Athens and drop that game by a FG or TD score in the final minutes (and assuming all the other teams in or around the Top 5 hold steady), I could see us dropping to 5 with Bama at 6.

Clemson and Michigan would likely jump us if they are still undefeated...so it would be UGA, OSU, Clemson, Michigan, UT, Bama.
OSU / Michigan will sort itself out and the final week ranking would be UGA, Clemson, B1G team, UT.

Then our chances all come down to how UGA and Bama fair in the SECCG...
Bama wins and we are on the outside looking in.
UGA wins and we have a solid case to be included in the CFP.

One thing that can spoil all this is a team from out west gaining steam in the pollsters eyes.

It’s fun seeing the vibe shift from years past when someone would start a threads about “When we lose to X” most would commiserate and discuss the 200 things that would have to go our way to pull off a highly unlikely upset. Now someone starts that thread and the majority jump in to tell the OP to GTFO with that thinking.

When we lose? You can please exit the nearest door.

We will beat UGA by 2 scores. They don't have anywhere near the offense to keep up with us. Mizzu exposed them. 35-24 final score.

Your thread title says “if” but your post says “when”. It’s far from a forgone conclusion that we lose to UGA. Before the season I’d have said less than a 10% chance we win that game. With them at home and having a better roster on paper I’d still give them the advantage but our talent development and coaching (game prep and in-game) close that gap a good bit. I’d say we’re up to about a 40% chance. If it were at home it would literally be a coin flip in my eyes. To me, 40% is very much in the “if” category, not “when”.

Either Ohio State or Michigan is going to lose in Dec. Ole Miss and UCLA is going to lose on Saturday. If UT or UGA finish 11-1, they will be in the top 5.
