If we lose to Georgia

Quit worrying about this crap. You either worry over nothing or worry yourself to death over nothing. Enjoy the moment and know anything can happen.
I mean he is enjoying the moment lol. He hasn’t been able to worry about it for 15 years let him worry it’s fun that we have something positive to worry about

I think if we lose to Georgia then we no longer control our own destiny (duh) and IMO Georgia would have to win the SEC championship (likely vs. Bama) for us to get back in mix. If we lose to Georgia and Georgia loses to Alabama in SECC (for their only loss) and Bama's only loss is to us. I think we are left out. That would really seem unfair if that happens.
Yea if we lose to Georgia we all have to become huge Gerorgia fans.

If I would have told you at the end of August that in the last week of October, you would be undefeated and in the top 3, I bet you would have been ecstatic. Enjoy where we are at and let Heupel and company worry for you. Heup got this. Win or lose that game, this program has turned a corner.

Georgia doesn’t take on Tennessee for another three Saturdays. The Volunteers have multiple games between now and the Nov. 5 matchup, while Georgia has an off week and then a rivalry game against Florida.

“I’m worried about tomorrow, man,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “I’m not looking down bat that run, because you start looking at that run, you get caught up. I’m looking solely at one thing. It’s not Florida, or anyone else. It’s us.”
But that hasn’t stopped many in the national media from already salivating over the big game. Georgia ranks as the No. 1 team in the country while Tennessee is at no. 3 after its big win over Alabama.

The initial College Football Playoff rankings come out the Tuesday before the Georgia-Tennessee game. That game should help further establish the stakes of what could be the biggest college football game in the season to that point.

As fans we can afford to speculate some (or as much as we would like) but the coaches and players have to be focused on the task at hand. I know speculating as fans is part of the fun for most of us but even as fans I think we can take some lessons away. Speculate, ponder hypotheticals and have fun with it, but don’t let them keep you from enjoying the good moments in between.

Also, worth keeping in mind is that this mindset of handling the current challenges we face with appropriate focus without being distracted by what comes in potential futures can be useful in many more endeavors than football. It’s a classic concept in many philosophies (Stoicism comes to mind) to worry about what you can control and not to let things out of your control burden you unduly.

Another common idea is that the past is gone, the future is uncertain, and only the moment is ours to face. I wouldn’t take this to mean that past and future are completely irrelevant: we can learn lessons from what has happened and use our judgment to prepare for what might, but getting overly worked up about either is not always the most healthy or useful approach.

All of that said, those are just my thoughts. Live as you all will :)

I would say, hypothetically, since I’m a fan that doesn’t play the game, that IF the players beat UT-Martin and IF the players beat KenSucky (btw, my autocorrect now suggests KenSucky for Kentucky), then IF we lose to UGA on the road and at least cover the spread, we would be the top ranked one loss team.
You didn’t put IF the players lose and cover the spread, the players would be the top ranked one loss team. 😜

On a side note, just wondering what if T Martin went to TN-Martin, do we still win the first BCS NC ever? Speaking of TN-Martin, they're our next opponent, and I'm expecting a win, but we should still focus on winning that game, like coach Hype says "The next game is the most important, because that's the one we play next"(mabey not an exactly verbatim quote there.) Also, I think we should remain focused on the here and now success, and I'm sure T Martin would agree.

Colleague of mine who’s born and raised in Ga was in my office today. After some friendly “we’re gonna stomp your ass talk” he admitted, his Ga friends are worried. Wasn’t sure they can match us on offense score for score

How many people posting on this site thought this conversation would even be feasible at this point. If we only lose to Georgia, we will be ranked very much higher than most thought we would be this year. We have got to stop looking for the bad behind every good thing that happens right now.

What are you insinuating?

I think he’s insinuating you might be a troll. I think Kentucky -could- beat us if we aren’t ready for the game, but absolutely shouldn’t beat us and likely will not.

Since your first post posits what most consider to be an unlikely outcome and you didn’t provide any analysis to explain your position you could be one of any number of agitators who do this regularly and aren’t actually Vol fans.

I’m not saying this is the case and I apologize if it seems that way, but your intro does come across as suspicious. If you really think so about Kentucky that’s a fine, completely ok opinion. If you care about clarifying you could provide some reasoning and I think you’ll get better responses. Up to you though.

Your first post is that we are going to lose to Kentucky

I remember as a student when they hadn’t beaten us since the year I was born in 1984 and we expected every Kentucky game (and Vanderbilt too) to go our way each year.

It was certainly heartbreaking during our recent decade of woes each time they beat us but even at our worse those teams weren’t coming close to dominating us.

The games were scarier in recent times and we lost more than usual but from 1984-2021 the series has been 34-4 in our favor. They got us in 1984, 2011, 2017, and 2020. Since Fulmer was fired (actually since Dooley opened that can of worms, better place to start than Fulmer since that’s when they got their first 21st century win) it’s still been 8-3 in our favor even through the disaster years.

As for Vanderbilt, they beat us in 1982, 2005, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, and 2018. In that the time the overall series was 33-7 in our favor. Since their first 21st century win it has still been 11-6 in our favor. They haven’t dominated either but even Vandy has done better than Kentucky in our pain period. I’ll be glad when we get those streaks firmly established again and can go back to proper alignment of the universe.

Right. That was then, and I have no worries about losing to them now. As far as I am concerned, we ain’t losing to them again for another 30 years. That balance has been restored… and I remember the losses. I was a senior in 98 and remember all to well what we expect our program to be.

Beat UT Martin!
Our team will. Fans can ask questions like that. The answer to the OP's question is it depends. If we lose to Georgia in a close contest then we will remain top 4. There is no way Alabama SHOULD pass us if we both have one loss and our one loss is to Georgia. If we lose to Georgia by 10+ then we will fall behind Bama.
