If we lose to Vanderbilt...

If we lose to Vanderbilt, will you still say the coaches did a good job this season?

. . . I believe his success or failure rests on his ability and willingness to hold his staff accountable, correct them, and make changes as necessary. . . .

Many would say that CPF's inability (or unwillingness) to do just this is what cost him his job.

"Loyalty" is certainly a double-edge sword in the coaching business.

If the coaches had done a good job this season, we wouldn't be asking such questions.

Unfortunately people will always ask the same questions regardless. If nick Saban doesn't win it all this year he would have done a bad job according to analysts, how unrealistic. Yet that is the biz. Coaching goes deeper than winning in your first year. Grades are up some of the younger players have shown better technique each week and kids love him.

I was with you until this.

What I am saying is, watch how the running backs run. Watch how well the young receivers have done each week. Most of all look at butches recruits like dobbs, great mechanics. The young players looks better every week. Some older players look better but for the most part we have to understand when ur in a system of horrible coaching for 4 years u can not get rid of those habits in 1 season. I rephrase. For the most part a lot of younger players have shown BETTTER technique each week

I believe in Jones (at least for now). I am still neutral on Jake. I am leaning against Jancek.

I am coming to believe his future success does not hinge on recruiting. He looks to be exceptional there. He has a personality that's magnetic to young guys.

I believe his success or failure rests on his ability and willingness to hold his staff accountable, correct them, and make changes as necessary. This is something that does and should happen behind closed doors. He would only set a coach up for failure by publicly questioning his performance... but I sure would like to know what he is privately saying to Jancek right now.

a very interesting thought,I don't think he will make any changes for a couple of years,do ya'll think it will be to his determent ?

He will and should keep all his staff in tact another year for the sake of recruiting and allowing players to have stability. We will see if players can by into jancek. Remember jancek needs his players of his liking, not dooleys. So until he has that I am neutral. Offensive side of things, I like what we have.remember, losing patterson hunter and bray and both rogers is a huge blow!

I would "amen" that about a million times. Fulmer let personal loyalties interfere with the loyalty he owed UT and the players. Sanders shouldn't have lasted more than 3 years. Had he been replaced after 2001... Fulmer would still be HC and UT would likely be successful now instead of a mess.

recruiting.....YES!!!!!!
Getting a signature win.....YES!!!!!

but if you can't go 6-6 with pretty much 4 Gimmies than you didnt do a good job!

Yes but when 6 of the other games are against top 10 opponents, 6 wins is pretty good. 5 wins will definitely be a disappointment but won't be the worst thing that ever happened considering we've lost our QB and a starting DT.
Still b very disappointed though.

He has to see it through next year with what he has. You just can't change this quickly unless the coach leaves on his own for something else. Plus, it would be difficult to talk someone into taking the job after that kind of quick trigger.

For that reason, I am really rooting for Jancek to show out these last two games... I'm just torn because I'm not confident he will or can.

I gotta defend my man. He was a great, outstanding coach. The years just wore him down. He was a man of his word and a family man. Much respect to him.

Blasphemy! OP should be required to watch 10 Vanderbilt home games at their stadium! "If we lose to Vanderbilt," those words should never come out of a Vol fans mouth, period!

I expected us to go 5-7 to 6-6 this season. Right now he is right at the mark but if he can't go 6-6 then I'm don't really believe that he did a good job. Still support him though. Our talent just isn't where it needs to be to compete with the better teams of the sec plus out schedule has to be one of the toughest in the nation.

Talk to the poster that stated you were making a statement. Image this, what if Dooley were still here coaching. Be grateful for what you have in the coaches at this moment. Take it for what is worth.

You need to exercise some patience.

The only statement you have made is not a statement at all, but more so a reflection of a your thought process.

Which includes a lack of patience, A lack of Understanding the process currently employed by CBJ & staff, and a total disregard for a team of players that had zero coaching leadership or direction the last 5+ years.

So you want to call out a staff or fans to render an opinion regarding the overall status of the team and coaching staff before a game is played and the season is complete.

Although you made no statement, there is a strong reflection of your thought process. I wondered what the poster meant about the statement, but he knows evidently.

Glad you feel comfortable hiding behind a computer doing so.

I realize some of us (me included) will never accept a losing record. But we have won the games we were suppose to. Lost all but one that we were supposed to. Recruited better than anyone thought we would. And have a good shot at a bowl many thought we wouldn't get. If we lose Saturday life will go on. As every one in college football seems to know we lack speed. But take a deep breath and look around the SEC East. Florida is falling apart. Georgia fans are wondering if they got the right coach. We still are good enough to beat USCjr. Missouri will come back to earth "We hope". Franklin won't be around much longer. And that blue team well..... The East is up for grabs and we are stockpiling talent. Maybe just maybe we are going in the right direction. And if we are, maybe even the "TIDE" will turn in our favor. Really though I just love my team. And that is THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE FOOTBALL (Screaming Rocky Top till I die, run through that Power T, then punch them in the eye!!!) TEAM. GBO!!!!

Maybe you should have asked if we dont beat Vandy do you think the coaches failed coaching. The recruiting is excellent and that is a very big part of success. If they dont beat Vandy there is a deficit in coaching.

We lose this one and it's over, Rock. It's Ned Stark v Joffrey Lannister for the Vol football program.

Only one guess who the mewling boy-king is in this scenario.

It's sad to think that way. If you have a kid with great potential and put him with horrible parents most of the time the kid will not grow. Take a kid who wasn't as privileged and give him great parents and chances are he will grow and succeed. Well we are new to these coaches, but we are growing. Vandy has had consistency, so they are peaking. Luckily for us sky is the limit.

So by that logic, every team should be happy with their coach, as long as he isn't as bad as Dooley.

You need to exercise some patience.

I think being happy with only 6 wins is the very model of patience for fans at any major program.

The only statement you have made is not a statement at all, but more so a reflection of a your thought process.

I asked a question. Did I reveal my thought process that you can evaluate the coaches based on the results of the games? Uh oh. You caught me.

Which includes a lack of patience, A lack of Understanding the process currently employed by CBJ & staff, and a total disregard for a team of players that had zero coaching leadership or direction the last 5+ years.

Once again with the "patience". Why is the current coaching staff having to undo 3 years of "zero coaching leadership"? Why are we paying off the huge buyout of the contract extension Dooley was awarded after his 1st year? Because folks were patient.

So you want to call out a staff or fans to render an opinion regarding the overall status of the team and coaching staff before a game is played and the season is complete.

No, I asked a question. But I do know what my opinion will be if we lose tomorrow. I voted. You can see it. I want to know where others stand.

If you want to wait until the end of the season to evaluate any part of the season, be my guest. But then, why are you here?

Although you made no statement, there is a strong reflection of your thought process. I wondered what the poster meant about the statement, but he knows evidently.

Once again, you caught me. My thought process is that coaches should be evaluated based on the results of games. I don't know why that is such a strange notion to you.

Glad you feel comfortable hiding behind a computer doing so.

Where are you?

From what little I have read from you, you appear to be the king sunshine pumper.

You go after people wanting accountability by telling them that they don't understand CBJ's process. You live in a fantasy land. The people you are going after are just stating the truth about where this program is right now, not some fantasy about where they hope he takes us.

We could lose 21-20 and beat little blue next week then yes done a good job, but we cant lose 42-10 and lose next week then no we did not do a good job, plus this is not the vandy I grew up watching, they have a good football team, this is the best the Vandys football program has been in there history, and they are catching us at one of the most low points in our history, but old JF will ride off into the night after the season then with our top recruiting class coming in and another in 15 it will be back to the good old days again like 52-7 or 59-3:bash:

If we lose to Vanderbilt on Saturday, will you still say the coaches did a good job this season?

Simple question. Just curious where our standards are at this point.

I don't believe we'll lose to Vandy, but...

No matter the outcome of this game, Kentucky or a potential bowl, I can say with a resounding YES! This coaching staff has done an incredible job this season. Rebuilding takes time and we've got a long way to go but we're moving and we're not stopping.
