IF we were to land Richardson, Clear, King, & Dunaway...

If we beat Georgia this year in Athens, Richt's coaching days at Georgia are numbered.

Honestly, If he doesn't win 8 games, he's done with a new AD coming in. His biggest supporter is gone.

If we get 7 of the top 15 in TN that is a great combo with already having one of the top 10 from SC and 2 of the top 12 in Georgia!

I really wish we wouldve went after Williamson, I thin hell be a stud for KY, I dont see us getting Jabriel I have some inside info on him and was told when Dooley took over he never got a phone call from any UT coach
I agree on Avery.

I was just never really that impressed with Jabriel to tell the truth. Apparently the staff feels the same.

To reiterate what some others have said, it would be ignorant to build a class of almost all TN players, what is important is that we are able to cherry pick the best talent. We need to raid GA even more and build as many in roads in LA as possible while they have inept coaching staffs.

Now apparently Devrin Young will be getting an offer ( says Younger on VQ ), IF we were to land him that would give us 8 of the top 15 in state.

7 out of the top 15 in our own state is MEDIOCRE. Do you want a competitive team in 2-4 years or a championship team? If we continue to recruit only half of Tennessee's top 15 each year for the next 4 years, we are going to be a mid-to-low SEC team in 4 years. Sorry, that's not what I signed up for and that ain't no fence.

We can't allow Southern Miss to poach all our talent and become a national powerhouse.

Yea, the point is we need to be able to lock up our talent. Its not like we are saying dont get the GA or SC guys or we are going to win with TN talent alone. We are not talking about 30 guys from TN. We should get 8 or 10 of our top guys and continue to get top guys from outside the state. GA, SC, AL, FL, MS, and LA have plenty to go around. However I do agree with GA being maybe the most important. Man they pump out lots of talent!

I think we're doing fairly well getting the instate guys we want. No reason to take guys we don't need or want just because they were born in Tennessee. I'll trust this staff's evaluation of instate guys until they start missing kids that go elsewhere and dominate (Hightower, Cobb, Willis).

We have a winner for most clueless post of the day...

Really???

You guys talk all the time about trying to get guys to come to UT that WANT to be here. Not guys that are simply looking for playing time and a meal ticket to the NFL. Who better than kids that grew up in Tennessee watching UT football?

It's FOOLISH to claim that we won the championship based on Ga. recruiting.

We had 6 Georgia players out of the 99 total on our championship team --

Fred White, Griffin, GA (Griffin)
Deon Grant, Augusta, GA (Josey)
Tad Golden,Lithonia, GA (SW DeKalb)
Jamal Lewis, Atlanta, GA (Douglass)
Steve Johnson, Powder Springs, GA (McEachern)
Cosey Coleman, Clarkston, GA (SW DeKalb)
Mercedes Hamilton,Waynesboro, GA (Fork Union Academy)

1/3 OF OUR CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM WAS FROM TENNESSEE!!!

Robert Loudermilk, Brentwood, TN (Brentwood)
Jeff Hall, Winchester, TN (Franklin Co.)
Jeremaine Copeland, Harriman, TN (Harriman)
Joey Mathews, Sevierville, TN (Sevier Co.)
Benson Scott, Knoxville, TN (Farragut)
Teddy Gaines , Kingsport, TN (Dobyns-Bennett)
Cedrick Wilson, Memphis, TN (Melrose)
Tim Sewell, Columbia, TN (Central)
Gerald Griffin, Murfreesboro, TN (Riverdale)
Travis Stephens, Clarksville, TN (Northeast)
Al Wilson LB, Jackson, TN (Central-Merry)

Kiffin didnt do good last year. I know he was going after top talent regardless of where they were from, but Ivory, Bohanna, Maclin, and maybe Duke and Brown would have been nice. They were all top talent except maybe Ivory, but most think he is a steal now. Of course there has to be room but we definetely had it at OL and DL. Im not saying take all TN guys just cause they are from here. But I like having TN guys a lot. I hate missing guys like Hightower! (I know that wasnt Kiffin) We have 8 or 10 in TN that are top quality in the country. We have enough room each year for 8 or 10 guys without messing up the national scene.

Plus they were not just roster fillers. Lots of those guys were key players. I love that!

Good Job!

Duke and Brown would have been huge steps down from the OL guys we were after. Brown evidently did terrible at every camp he went to. We missed on Maclin. Not sure there was anyone else we were really after from TN that we didn't get. I guess you could argue Kiffin wouldn't have gotten Stone, but it doesn't really matter for us because he'd have had Chaz Green had he stayed, and Dooley signed James, anyway.

I loved the class Kiff and O were expecting, but I will admit that I was hoping for about 3 more DTs that could contribute in a year or two.

Copeland, Willis, and Calvin Smith would have brought quality, young depth to DT.

Instead we brought in Greg Clark.

Even is we got Willis he probably would have transfered out just like with UNC because of his father moving to CA.

Thats the point though, we should have been after some of them, we had room. Kiffin MAY have gotten Chaz, you dont know that for sure. I dont think Brown and Duke would be a huge step down from say Pair, but I cant remember who recruited Pair. What about Bohanna, havent heard how he is doing. I think him and Maclin were big misses.

Wait...are we having an intelligent conversation!!

That was out of desperation though. Lets see who DD brings this year. I want Gosha, Johnson and Wright!

Duke and Brown aren't SEC caliber linemen, and anyone who followed recruiting last year knew Chaz Green was a UT lock before Kiffin left; even most Gator fans conceded it.

I believe the state of TN will continue to consistently produce solid OL, DL, TEs, and LBs as it always has.

We have to go out of state to get the speed/skill guys however.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think most call them the "Cornbread fed boys"....:good!:

No, we were in a serious numbers crunch at the end, which is why Stone was possibly not going to be a take for us even if he wanted to come here. Dooley had plenty of room due to the high number of defections after Kiffin's departure, but in Kiff's final hour, we were running low on spots.
