If You Could Attend Any ONE Sporting Event In History, What Would It Be?

I would have killed -- figuratively -- to see Billy Ratliff blow Burlsworth off his ass and trip Clint Stoerner.

To me, that's what legendary moments are. The unlikely and the unexpected. And I'd take being in that crowd - from the fumble, to the roar, to watching Henry blast a completely shell-shocked Arkansas defense off the field. To go from utter defeat, to manic joy, and to know that Tennessee couldn't be stopped. What a night. What a game. "Shame on the people leaving Neyland Stadium." That's damn right. I'd be there and I'd lose my voice after that one.

Other honorable mentions would be 1998 Florida, Dobbs Heaves It, the Miracle at South Bend, that 2005 comeback game at LSU that spawned the "Corndog Face" image for Les Miles, 2022 Alabama, 2004 at Georgia, and of course, the Sugar Vols. Any of those are pretty awesome too.

I'll go off script here and give one not Vols related.

The Super Bowl played after the 85 season where the Bears walloped the Patsies. It wasn't much of a game, but that Bears team is what got me into football.

Actually, wasn't that just a few weeks after the Sugar Vols in the same stadium?

Can I get some kind of exemption for the month of January, 1986?

Thrilla in Manila

About a decade ago, I was tooling around Manila on a work assignment. Had the weekend free and took a cab over to watch a movie or two to kill some time. Dropped off at the mall and realized Araneta (where they had the fight) was right behind the mall in the Cubao area. Paid a security guard the equivalent of like $5 to let me go in and walk around a bit. Was a pretty cool experience.

Unnamed Ancient Greek boxer against the Staute of Theagenes of Thasos.
Ancient Greek legend of an unnamed boxer who lost every match he ever fought against the legendary Theagenes. After the death of Theagenes, a statue was built in his honor. His erstwhile opponent, sensing an opportunity to finally give his undefeated opponent the beating he always wanted to deliver, punched the statue…….which toppled over and killed him 😂😂😂😂
The sons of the victim subsequently brought charges against the statue which was indeed convicted of murder. No word on the punishment

Was definitely an awesome night! I was there until the end and I did lose my voice. Our offensive line and Henry destroyed that D after the FUMBLE.

Game I would love to be at is my sons last baseball game before losing one of his eyes in a freak accident with his little brother. Don’t ever take those moments for granted. 🙏

Sitting ringside at Ali-Frazier
A lot of posts regarding Ali, including myself…my personal choice because of his greatness and place in sports history as a whole. But if someone twisted my arm, I could be persuaded to pick Hagler-Hearns. As a lifelong boxing nut, this one takes the cake of all cakes.

That would be a great one too.

So many great fights in the 70's and 80's. A few in the 90's. Memorable fights and bigger than life personalities.

TBH, I'm not sure who the top fighters are today. I guess Mayweather is the best if he's still active.

Mayweather has been basically retired for a while now. He still does short "promotional" fights here and there I think. Floyds primary motive is promoting Floyd.

They have been pushing this guy named Canelo Alvarez for the better part of a decade. He's a decent fighter I guess, but about as exciting as day old rice.

The Gypsy King is kind of weird guy who is kind of entertaining in small doses. He's a genuinely huge man also which never hurts. Would not want to run into that dude in a dark alley. The rest of the heavyweight division is the very definition of meh.

The Comeback at South Bend, 1991 for the win, the comeback and the environment.
I was with several other Deadheads from UT in a hotel room in Hampton, Virginia while viewing this game. We were all headed to see the Jerry Garcia Band play that night at the Hampton Coliseum. There is probably a dozen " other things" we should have been kicked out of our hotel room for, but it ended up being a noise complaint for us celebrating the victory of this game. And this was prior to the concert....
Priceless--

Perseus versus Medusa.
I don't like snakes.
But I do like mythology.
Love this response. I recently had my eight-year-old son watch this scene from the original movie version of " Clash of the Titans" . That has to be one of the finest cinematic scenes depicting Greek Mythology ever.
