If you could go back to the Spring of 2005....

The simple answer is no.

I don't even have to use hindsight for it either. Some people actually knew about him and the punk brothers way before UT hired him. They knew about his antics at former schools.

People let me ask you something. You think schools had not looked at pearl? You think you were the only ones that found him? No.

Pearl was rejected many times because of who he is and what he does. UT was one of the only programs to sniff. And now they are paying. Yet some of you not only think it was a good hire but want to keep him?

Cal ever brought that kind of ish down on UK and I promise you there would be people in the streets calling for his head on a plate. As would the media, and every freakin fan base including this one. And you know it.

You might after the NCAA releases their penalties.

I understand somewhat where you guys are coming from. I think about if this exact thing happened to UK in football after some good success. But see that's the thing. Some of you are acting like he has just brought national championships and can do anything and keep his job. He has never won a conference championship(the real one. the tournament). He has never coached into the final four. He has an elite eight and some good tournament births. He's done very well, but not GREAT. I think there are several coaches who could do it CLEANER and better at UT. Some of you sell your program short. And has no one stopped to think that of all his moderate success he was..uumm....probably doing some things he shouldn't through the time? Maybe that's why he has done as well as he has? So if you found out he has been doing illegal recruiting and such this whole time, would it change your mind then??

I haven't ever cared for the guy and never will.

So I can't say I would have hired him. I've enjoyed the highs since he's been here, though.

Shocker. From now on when it comes to ut basketball during the bruce pearl era please dont post. We know exactly what you are going to say.

I would love to win the sec tourny not denying that but please dont act like its easier to win the reg. season compared to tourny. Case in point georgia two yrs ago. Also dont act like cal is clean as a whistle.

I hate the guy, but I would have given him consideration. Marshall hadn't built an impressive enough resume and Anderson hadn't showed whether he could control a BCS Conference power.

Sorry, conference tournament championships are where it's at. Winning out right is nice, but it's not the tournament trophy.

Which is harder? Avoiding my other comment?

The next time Cal is brought up and found guilty of charges by the NCAA I will let you actually make that claim. If you want to keep pearl keep him. But if you do don't expect people to take you serious if you start calling out other coaches for not being clean.

Didn't see it the first time because you edited it in.

When u quoted me it was in there look up. And youre right cal hasnt ever been specifically named in a violation. But what is ur gut feeling? Think hes ever knowingly had a rule violation?

I think the chances any coach of his caliber has not done questionable things or cheated is slim. So sure, I guess.

But that's the wrong question to be asking. Cal has done nothing wrong as far as we know. Gut feelings? Ish in one hand and wish in the other.

The real question is what would UK fans be doing if we were in a similar boat with Cal. That answer is simple. He steps out of line at UK, EVER, and it will end him. But cal, with all due respect, is not dumb enough to get caught up in pearls current mess.

I am not surprised by pearl. Most who followed him before know this would probably happen at some point. I am however surprised by UT fans. Allowing the school and administration to get away with this is surprising. Some of you wanting to keep him and making every stupid excuse in the book for him is whats surprising.

If Cal did it or does it I will personally come to this board and call for his head. You can bet that.

I think it's funny that everyone who doesn't like Pearl is viewed as being a follower of someone instead of having their own opinion, but being a Pearl homer is completely acceptable.

Exactly. Like I have something to prove.

No. His lies and cheating made him such a team cancer that some of it rubbed off on Chris loften

Would you hire Pearl again if you were Hamilton?

Yes. Though it may cost me my job, that nice new practice facility and renovated arena wouldn't be there without Pearl. And those will be there after both Pearl and me are gone.
