Igor Milicic

I will be the first one to admit Aidoo is better than Okpara. That being said, I didn't care for how Aidoo wilted in some games last year. He still brings more to the table than Okpara. Our overall team makeup is different too. Dubar is going to be a stud, IMO
I totally agree. I think Aidoo is a slightly better player but I think Okpara is a better player for this team if that makes sense?

My big point is a lot of folks are acting like Aidoo and Okpara were scrubs and try to use any chance they can when one of the transfers do well to take shots. Milicic vs Okpara is a case of false equivalence. The transfers we got in are all great and they are great player and make us a great team. The guys we lost were great players for our team that either graduated or made business decisions. Sorry thats college sports now like it or not.

Lets not spend so much time hating on these kids. That's mot directed @BernardKingGOAT its directed at all the haters. You all know who they are the ones that want to find nothing but negative in everything. 2 things can be true. They guys that leave us can be good players and people and the guys that replace them can be good also. Lets celebrate them all. If a vol that transfered to another school has success its good for UT. They started here so when they do well we get mentioned.

Perfect example. When people have been talking about Kaidon Salters transfer from Liberty to Colorado the fact he was at UT first even though he got kicked from the team and never played..him being a former UT player was what the talking heads used to give him legitimacy. The fact UT would kick a dude with that talent off the team for behavior, not really miss him and he go on to show out. Thats good press.I will never knock former Vols who go on to success or the ones that crash out. Good luck and even in cases of good riddance still good luck.

uhhh... he is not even in Awakas role. He is in JJJ's role. Awaka was the backup center and played some PF. I didn't watch every game last year but I'm pretty sure Awaka never started a single game at PF if he ever started a game it was because Aidoo was out. Our starting PF all last year was JJJ. The people who have replaced Awaka in our rotation this year have been Phillips and Dubar and just FYI Awaka is outplaying both of them this year he's pretty much dropping 8 and 8 a game and has only fouled out of one game so far averaging under 3 a game in 18 mins per (those stats are significantly better than Okpara FYI). I know folks are gonna be like hating because I brought it up but don't bring up names until you check what they are doing. Awaka is doing very well and AIdoo has been putting up good number since he has gotten healthy and getting minutes the last 3 games for Arky.

As far as missing shots it happens to good shooters and even more often than it does with bad shooters.. because shooters shoot.. Steph Curry went 0/7 last night and has had multiple games under 30% from the feild this year.
I addressed that in another post. I will say we were going to be using more NIL money for Awaka. Maybe we get Milicic anyways. I don't know for sure.
I do know Awaka still has that foul problem.
Guy does you no good if you can't have him on the floor when you need him the most.
But yeah, shooters have their slumps, but
Igor has had 8 games now with 1 or no 3 pointers. I'm just saying in terms of going very deep or even winning it all this year, we're going to need more of him from beyond the arc.
Just my opinion.

Awaka still has what foul problem? Hes averaging less than 3 fouls a game. Depth is a tem problem. Awaka and Aidoo got in foul trouble a lot because we had no depth at the post. We literally only had 2 true post players to cover 40 minutes in the post. Every second they were not on the court someone was playing grossly out of position. Phillips and Estrella went ready yet. JJJ was a combo guard plying power forward.

Now we do have more depth and people playing less out of position. Any post player that playing hard defense and rebounding is going to get a lot of fouls. Most big men period dont play much more than 20-25 mins a game. These are high motor guys that come in and give spurts of all out not guys that are gonna play you 30 mins a game. A big man that can do that that at the college or NBA level is insanely rare. Usually posts playing 30mins a game are offensive guys that are not big on defense. If youre getting blocks and boards you are getting lots of fouls..it is what it is.

Milicic does not have to make a single 3 pointer to fulfill his role on this team. Any 3's he hits are a bonus he is our freaking power forward. He will have games where he chucks 3-4 3 pointers. But if we NEED him hitting that many regularly thus wont be a very good season.

Awaka is getting those almost 3 fouls pergame on 17 min average. If he played the whole game in the role of a primary big man he would be fouling out. He plays really hard and his style is going to get him in foul trouble a lot, imo. A lot of times when he played here he would pick up fouls out of frustration.
He's had a couple games where he has kept that in check this year, but the games I watched him play he was picking them up pretty quick still. That's just what I watched tho.
Igor has picked up his rebounding duties for the most part ( whether intended or not) without fouling out. Playing a lot more minutes, too.
I digress. He's moved on, as we have.

I think you are wrong about Milicic not needing to hit any 3's. He's getting the open looks and that would be absolutely huge for us if he could hit them. That threat/potential could be the difference of us winning a championship this year or not, IMO.
Final 4 or championship is what I am basing all my expectations on this year. We don't know how much longer we will have Barnes.
I know one thing for sure, Igor most certainly needs to be hitting some 3's if he's taking them. Same with ZZ. If not, don't waste the shot.
I'd really like 35 % from both of them.

The best center in the SEC floats out and makes 3’s at a respectable rate - no reason our “power forward” can’t also.
Can he? Sure. should be be expected to is the question? Its one thing to be like our guards and wings are not shooting 3's but your post players? His shot will come around he has shot about 35% career from 3 hes currently at 25. Lets be clear no one on the team outside of Lanier or Gainey is shooting great right now.

But lets be clear this team is undefeated and number 1 in the nation. Why are we nitpicking? They have 2 practice/buy games left till we get to see what the deal is for real. If milicic is shooting 25% come mid January worry then till then it does not matter. I see it as hes getting his bad shooting games out of the way.

Igor still not lighting it up from the floor, but he is a beast on the boards and solid on D. I got faith he's going to start dropping some in from behind the arc.
If he does, we could play some high level stretch 4. I truly believe he and Dubar being an extra 3 point threat is what we need to win it all this year.

Really thought the Okpara/Estrella combo would let us compete with just about any big we'd see except maybe Broome. Losing Estrella was a real blow that we will come to fully appreciate as the season wears on. Now, the first thing I look at in upcoming matchups to see what kind of post presence the opponent has. That will most certainly be our kryptonite this season. Really thought Okpara would be a defensive and rebounding force this team needed. Now he's reminding me of the no show guys who've filtered though over the last several seasons.

It's nice that Milicic is an aggressive rebounder

I think it's a mistake to look at one game where both teams shot uncharacteristically poorly and try to interpret Igor's performance as some kind of trend. No, he didn't light the world on fire, but his performance leading up to this game had been better, and I have to imagine the circumstances and environment were stressful as all get out last night.

Dude still contributed to the win in a big way, and I'm positive he'll bounce back.
This. Anyone who has played competitively for a while knows sometimes you just have one of those nights where nothing goes in. I was a consistently good three point shooter at all levels- HS, college, rec leagues, etc. I’ve hit 9, 10, 11 threes in a game before but can only think of two games in 20+ years where the basket appeared to have a lid on it and nothing went in.
