‘23 IL WR Carnell Tate (Ohio State commit)

Apparently at Clemson if you make a commitment public and continue to take visits, they consider you uncommitted and do not guarantee you a scholarship. Now, i would guess if you are a 5* or high profile prospect, they would still take you, but if you are 3* you are probably SOL if something else comes along to them

Is everything free on an unofficial visit? I thought when a recruit took an unofficial that the recruit had to pay for everything?
I'm not sure, but I think they can get in for free, but they have to pay their own travel expenses, room, and board. But if we're being honest, if they're a recruit that's worth a damn, I'm sure they're getting "help" from somewhere. And that's true of ALL programs.

I am really surprised to see the new ESPN 300 has Tate ranked #234 overall and #25 WR. They also have Nico as the #31 overall and #6 QB. Just goes to show how recruiting is nothing more than one persons opinion
Those guys are committed to schools no reason to hype them up they are 5* stars and establish. They are good. Services are good for about 1500 players and they never really id the hidden gems. Remember the 4* athlete out of Tennessee that was a fake.

ESPN doesn’t have evaluators. It’s just Tom Luginbill watching highlight tape. They rank based on who they can hype. They’re a meaningless service.

Agree 100% ... People who closely follow recruiting know that 247 is the one to use. I never see ESPN's ratings/rankings cited anymore.

247 still has Nico #3 overall. However, they have been dropping Tate. He is down to a 4 star now. I haven't seen an explanation as to why. Ohio State has 2 WR commitments ranked ahead of him. That's why I believe that he is legitimately still in play for Tennessee.

More appropriately, it shows ESPN is full of MORANS

Follow up question for Mr AP:

How does a school “shut down” a recruit’s intentions to visit another school? Did they give him more NIL? Threaten his NIL? Threaten his spot in the class (this seems least likely considering he could just throw up the deuces)?
Dabo approach. "You can visit anywhere else all you want, but you have to decommit, and then I can't guarantee that we won't give these other guys begging us to come here your spot. If you're in, you're in."

... but of course, he recruits from the commitment list of other teams harder than anyone. I'm not even sure if he has his own list of prospects. He basically just recruits whoever Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State are after. I hate Dabo.

And while I think it’s not a great philosophy, it clearly works for Dabo bc he’s got 2 rings. That carries a lot of weight. I guess my question should be: how does Mike Norvell and FSU shut down a recruit’s intent to visit other schools?

By telling them they might lose their spot.

good question

Depends on the recruit. They don't treat them all the same. Norvell could also have another guy on the line to replace him.

Right. And Faulk could have multiple schools (like UT) pursuing him and offering him even better opportunities. The only way that strategy works for Norvell is if Faulk is absolutely in love with FSU or he’s agreed to some NIL deal he’s worried nobody else will match

Carnell Tate is slated to be in town for the game. Ohio State was by IMG to see him earlier in the week and yet he is still set to be in town so that’s a big win for the Vols. Kelsey Pope has been tremendous in keeping the communication lines open as he has kept working the relationships in this one. If Tennessee is going to flip the Buckeye commitment, we don’t believe it will be until later in the process, but obviously getting him here is a big deal in attempting to make that happen.
