It's a promotion, though. Having talent at tOSU means nothing if he's stuck as a position coach. A coordinator position at a mid-level SEC school willing to pay a good amount of money is a worthwhile endeavor. At worst, he busts or butts heads with Stoops, and he can always move on. He'll always be a great position coach and in high demand for that position. At best, he builds his résumé for a higher profile OC position (perhaps back at tOSU, someday) or for a head-coaching position somewhere.
