I somewhat agree with this poster. A running QB (Dobbs, Streeter, Robinson, Schuler, etc.) gives the offense a dimension that the defense has to account. The game has CHANGED.
I've seen plenty of runners who can't hit the broadside of a barn. You don't have to be a track star to be a very good qb. It still important for a qb to be able to stay in the pocket sometimes and make big throws. Sure it's nice for a qb to have a great presence about him and have some mobility. But the main thing is too have a accurate arm and a quick release and be able to process things quickly. That goes for drop back passers and quarterbacks that roll out alot. But to say drop back passing and pocket passing is a thing of the past you simply aren't watching enough football. GBO!As Spurrier said, Manning can't beat us with his arm when he's flat on his back.
Yeah but the mere threat of a running QB opens up the running game for the running backs too though. When the defense HAS to account for the QB running the ball, it means that they cannot solely key in on the RB's, which means when the QB goes to hand off to the RB's the defenders have to hesitate until they know for sure whether the QB has kept the ball or not. Those slight hesitancies can mean the difference between a 2 yard gain and a 15 yard gain. Football truly is a game of inches and a game of split seconds. You run with your running backs, that's why running backs are on the field. When you CAN'T run the ball, you revert to trickeration to run the ball, because you have to. What you want is to not HAVE to. You want to impose your will. You want to be able to run the ball. Period.
I’m guessing you didn’t read what op said? Lawrence is a decent runner but I wouldn’t say he’s better than hooker, when he’s healthy.Trevor Lawrence rushed for almost 1,000 yards and 18 touchdowns over 3 seasons, even with 2020 being a much shorter season. I’m guessing you didn’t watch many Clemson games.
Trevor Lawrence was a good instinctive runner and Clemson would design Qb runs for him several times a game. Plus he had a big 50 plus TD run against Ohio State that was crucial in their BCS win a couple years ago. IMO Lawrence was actually a dual threat Qb.So you’d be upset if they got a Trevor Lawrence type of qb to commit? Think before you type
