Let's see how this works out for Illinois...

Neighboring states gleeful over Ill. tax increase - Yahoo! News

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – While many states consider boosting their economies with tax cuts, Illinois officials are betting on the opposite tactic: dramatically raising taxes to resolve a budget crisis that threatened to cripple state government.
Neighboring states gleefully plotted Wednesday to take advantage of what they consider a major economic blunder and lure business away from Illinois.

Gotta love Mitch Daniels

"It's like living next door to `The Simpsons' — you know, the dysfunctional family down the block," Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said in an interview on Chicago's WLS-AM.

Huh. Couldn't find anything to cut in their government expenditures... I guess it was all critical to the survival of the state.

Clearly they are in need of a community organizer.

It's claimed to be temporary but the same was true for all the toll roads around and in Chicago - the tolls were there to pay back the initial bonds then they would go away; or not. The tolls are higher than ever.

Lots of black people in Chicago, so news of this ballyhooed by the right to further link prejudice to entitlement and overspending.

Nothing new.

If it even tangentially involves a minority, there's a racist angle isn't there?

When, exactly, did "the man" bring you down?

how does it even involve a minority. I guess if TN did the same LG would bring up Memphis? :dunno:

either way it's ridiculous (for lack of being able to use a more appropriate one)

The increase may not be as big of an issue, depending on how the connecting states compare. If it really is temporary (agree with bham a big if) then I don't think there will be any impact at all. I can't really see any major existing business making a decision to move their operations to another state... the move could cost more than the savings. It may, however, have an impact on their ability to attract new business.

To avoid that, the Democrat-controlled General Assembly voted to temporarily raise personal income taxes 66 percent, from 3 percent to 5 percent. Corporate rates will rise, too — from 4.8 percent to 7 percent — when Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn signs the measure.

The top personal rate in Wisconsin is 7.75 percent, for example, and Iowa's is 8.98 percent. Indiana and Michigan will have lower rates, however — 3.4 percent and 4.35 percent.

All I know is all the coverage of Florida beating Tennessee a few days ago was racist, because Florida has more white kids amongst their starters.

hard to see how it's temporary. the unions own the state. nothing is going to change.

And what exactly does that have to do with the surrounding states taking in the businesses that defer on paying higher taxes?

Have you met that bunch of racists in Indianapolis. Been itching to take advantage of the downtrodden in Chicago. Can you imagine how lucrative exploiting the down on their luck crowd must be for a state government.

If you don't think there is something behind the mockery of Illinois for raising taxes as opposed to cutting spending, and that it has at least some basis in Chicago and race, then you are not being honest with yourself, much less the board.

We have ourselves a nice little experiment that will play out over the next decade. My bet is against IL.
