Illinois parade shooting spree

The optical quality is considered quite good by many people though they're almost universally considered on the heavy side.
Very heavy. That whole rig is really heavy. That was actually from 2020, the next year I took a much lighter .270 setup with a bipod and vortex Diamondback

No, it doesn’t. Should I have spooked him off to 500 so it would be more impressive? 😂

No, just saying 340 yrds isn't that impressive. I've hit many 1000 meter center mass with a Leopold mounted on a modified Remington 700 in 7.62.

I’ve really got to travel to find a range where I can practice at that kind of distance and really it’s not practical for me to do that anyway. I’m looking to make ethical shots on cervid species. I’ve set my current ethical range at 500, though my gear is certainly capable of doing more than that. Hunting in wind, at elevation… I’m not going to risk injuring an animal to boost my ego.

I respect that, I've never fired at a 4 legged animal any further than a couple hundred yards. Don't ever plan to reach out any further than that for meat.

Edit: Take that back, killed a coyote at about 600 meters once.

That’s about all you need hunting the deciduous forest and ag land in the east, and that’s how I was until I started going out west a few years ago. Doing spot-and-stalk hunting in a wide open landscape I quickly realized I had to get better and extend my range.

All this bonding over hunting is boring. Y'all need to get back to what you do best.

I doubt I will ever go out west to hunt. Heck I don't do much hunting anymore anyway but still go out and keep the skills as sharp as I can. I like to go out and plink groundhogs every so often, that's how I learned to shoot. That and the US Army sniper school.

Let's see the size of your optic.
