I'm going to play COD. This team disgusts me. This coach disgusts me.

you bandwagon fans disgust me. I hope he does leave, worse than kentucky fans. i rarely even read the board anymore due to the pathetic fanbase on here. As a basketball school, we have no tradition, dont pay in the top 10, have some of the worst fans, and you want pat riley or Dean Smith or john Wooden type coaches to come here and put up with it. I personally think pearls team tend to have way too many times they go flat and not score for long periods of time, but to deny his success here is blind and ignorant. The only one of you who i can respect is hat, although i dont agree with him, and that is just because he has been this way from the beginning. I dont know any of you, but cant stand you, nor do i want to know you.

I'm sure the feeling is mutual!!

I don't feel bad that I have lost the respect of gutless internet flamers.

Wrong, which is why so many are disappointed.

Right here. I'm a fan of Pearl. **** happens and the team played like crap. We'll see how they respond.

Agreed. Horrible showing on the Left Coast against a team that is geered towards slowing us down. They pack it in down low and the 3's weren't falling. You see the result. But it's ridiculous to say that Bruce needs to go or it's time to give up on this season. It's too early to pass judgment with several big games coming up.

Bruce Pearl is a good coach. In your heart you know it is true. Sometimes players get out of control and just do their own thing. Memphis went to the Elite Eight with a team that lost to Tenn by double digits four years ago. Two years ago we went to the national championship with a team that lost to you in our only other loss of the season other than Kansas. You guys had one bad game. I know you feel worse because it wasn't close and because you went in expecting to win easy, but it happens to every team sometimes. Over on the Memphis board we are unhappy about losing to an unranked U Mass in Boston. Our AP rating fell from 26 to 41. You guys are still ranked! I am pulling for you to do the unexpected and knock off Kentucky! Maybe it won't happen, but it could. You do play them and you have enough talent that with a little luck anything could happen. Dallas just knocked off the undefeated New Orleans Saints. How many of you saw that coming? Sometimes a Coach has a lot of work to do to get the best out of his team, and sometimes it comes together and sometimes it doesn't. With Bruce Pearl and the right players you had the number one ranked team in the country for awhile. There are over 300 Division 1 schools who can't say that has happened to them in the last 10 years. For many it has never happened. Keep hope alive. Every team loses some games it should win, but they also win some games they should lose. The objective sports writers are still rating you guys high.

I am looking forward to the Memphis/Tenn game on Dec 31st. Someone has to win, and at least one of the fan bases will feel better after that game. I will be honest, I am pulling for Memphis in that game, but I am not going to give up on our team if we don't win the game. You shouldn't either.

To VolDad: You asked if I have been reading the threads. I have been reading the threads posted today, but I only drop in sometimes. I am not sure I get your point. Do you disagree with me?

By the way, I am both the Dad of a Tennesse Volunteer and the Dad of a Memphis Tiger. Both have now graduated.

Ok, I just went out and read the "End of the Bruce Pearl Era" thread and I see your point. You are saying that you truely believe he is no good as a coach. Being an elite team is not easy, as you have also discovered in football. Would Purdue think CBP is not a good coach? From the outside, I think you guys are overreacting. Great coachs don't grow on trees, and great coachs sometimes have a down year unless they always get the best talent in the country. UNC just dropped a game to Texas, and they always get the players they want. Memphis spent five years with John Calipari before we started having sucess in the NCAA tournament. Several of those years we went to the NIT. How long has Bruce been with you now?

As I read the threads, people are disappointed in the loss but if it was just the loss then we could recognize it as just 1 game and move on. It is the underlying issues that seem to be the most frustrating (e.g., no 1/2 court offense, no PG play, no play in the paint, no adjustments from the bench, etc.). These are problems that we have watched for 5 years and have never seen addressed. If they are not addressed they will bite us in the Butt come tourney time.

How does following your advice, it is just 1 game, help address those concerns or are you saying that we should just forget about them?

PS: congrats on the kids. mine graduated in May.

I guarantee that you know less about our coach / team than 99% of this board.

Those #'s are misleading. Bruce's salary this year is $1.9M, plus a $500k longevity bonus (for staying 5 years), which brings it to a total of $2.4M. You don't include the one-time bonus, and his salary ranks 14th.

Stop the spinning. From the article you posted, the average of his salary for the 6 years is 2.3 mil, counting all bonuses. If he completes his contract, that is what he will have made. Look at all the coaches tournament records above and below, and you will see why he is not producing for what he is paid in comparison to his peers.

Let's sit tight for a few more weeks. Last year, Uconn, Pitt, KU, MSU, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri, Louisville, Duke, UCLA, Arizona, and Arizona State all had embarrassing high margin losses during the regular season to teams with inferior talent.

One game does not a season make, but we best start working on our shortcomings or it could be a very disappointing season.

Spinning? I was just saying that the numbers in that article are misleading. Did you not notice that the source is the Bham News?
