I have to wonder, it seems about half on this board don't care if we win any games in this tournament. After yesterday I wonder what percentage of those people are now actually POed about last nights game. Me, even if nothing is one the line I want to win. It's just a better feeling after the game.
This tournament meant nothing. We already won the regular season SEC Championship. The only thing that matters now is winning the regional and super regional for a chance to win the CWS. That's the prize

Very upset about yesterday and the lack of caring. Even though I told my son and his friends thats what was going to happen. We live in Hoover so no travel expenses and all but we dont get to see the baseball team play often.
Spend money for a Cabana and food and all and get that effort.. ugh.
My 11 year old was in bad mood all night.. we dont go to games due to the 5 hour about drive but we watch every one possible on the secn + and espn + and he was like dad they dont care
very irritating
on to today
It’s not over yet Texas AM and Arkansas are both about to get eliminated. Bet their fans are even more upset.

Blame the conference for holding the tourney in the first place. It's a waste of time. You have teams play a 30-game conference schedule--30 games!---and then say, OK, now, let's have a tournament, too--and give the winner an automatic bid? It's dumb. The tourney won't affect our NCAA seeding. There is nothing for the top-tier conference teams to play for, and they know it. When you've just finished playing 30 games against all or most of your conference foes, you don't need even more games to determine who should be in the NCAA tourney.

Well every conference does it…let this sink in…Acc tournament does 3 team pools…Louisville played Tuesday and does not play their second game till tomorrow. In that game they play Clemson and both teams have already been eliminated from advancing further. So there are much dumber ways to do things….

I believe this year’s SEC tournament will set the tone for future tourneys meaning reduced attendance, post-season strategies by the coaches dictating foster revisions, and general lack of willingness to try to win.
I would guess most fans are PO’d after yesterday especially with the top four seeds losing with a general lack of effort.

Fans are not stupid. They’ll think twice about going to witness crap like that again.

Yes, it was a mid-week game, but that’s why all teams played Thurs-Fri-Sat last weekend.

Having a really bad game are difficult to snap back from and goes a long way especially in the post season.
Everyone should’ve known that the normal weekend guys wouldn’t start on Wednesday. I think back to my first trip to Hoover in 2005 as a student and Delmonico threw middle reliever Chris Howell in the first game because it was a Wednesday and double elimination from the get go. This isn’t a new phenomenon, or exclusive to CTV, for the teams firmly in the NCAAT, let alone ones who are guaranteed a top 8. The only game that’s been somewhat surprising is the UGA-LSU game as you had 1 fighting for their postseason life and 1 fighting to secure a top 8 seed, so UGA’s lack of production and fight was a shock to me.

It’s all pretty simple. There is a bigger picture mentality for the top 4-6 teams and a need to win for the remaining 6 teams, whether that’s improving their lot or ensuring an NCAA berth.

The SEC tournament has, for a long time, proven that winning big isn’t a big indicator of NCAA tourney success. Therefore, the need to get more innings for some guys and the need to experiment will always make this tournament pot luck. Bad games happen.

Gosh, just cut and paste this over in the basketball forum too. These tournaments bag the kind of effort that we saw in game one. Need to be canceled yesterday.

Look at our performances under CTV in the postseason after a good SEC tournament run vs. a bad. I feel ya, but it is obvious we are not going to agitate any of our arms in a meaningless tournament based on prior "data." Relax, Frank and Tony have a plan and eyes on a much bigger prize. :)
Ummm...

2019: 0-1 in the SECT, lost in regional
2021: 3-2 in the SECT (lost in championship), lost in CWS
2022: 4-0 in the SECT (won it), lost in Supers
2023: 0-1 in the SECT, lost in CWS

Looks pretty balanced, and honestly slightly better having won a couple games in the SECT.

I hear ya.......but

Two of the top seeds are now home in Air Conditioning resting up for what really matters. They are smart.
We already have our SEC Champ banner. We'd be smart to get home soon and rest ourselves. What really matters is a week from today on.....

This is the last year, btw, of double elimination in the tourney. Good move!

Wednesday was always going to be treated like a midweek game for the pitching staff. We saw the normal rotation yesterday and Beam will go today. If you go undefeated in this tournament then you have to win 4 games as a top 4 seed. You are going to strapped for pitching at some point so might as well pitch the midweek guys at the start and hope for the best. We didn’t beat Vanderbilt but pitching prevailed against A&M. It will probably prevail again tonight with Beam going. How you do in the tournament honestly doesn’t have any bearing on you making it to Omaha. Everyone in baseball is just superstitious and we like to blame shortcomings on something. We made the championship game in 2021 and made Omaha, won the tournament in 2022 and was 1 game away from Omaha, lost in 2023 in the first round single elimination round and made Omaha again. If we win that Game 3 vs Notre Dame then I think people would probably think differently. One game shouldn’t define your season but people choose to let that be the narrative, even in such a fluky sport like baseball. Literally all the top 7 teams lost their first game this year except Mississippi State, and they won on a walk off homer. Stuff happens in this crazy sport. It’s called developing a program and we’ve seen it grow exponentially ever since Tony has gotten here.

People like to blame stuff on anything to fit their narrative. Everyone acts like making Omaha is a normal thing and we should be there every season. It’s not easy or every top team would be making it every year.

I think it speaks volumes about the lack of pitching depth they have more than not caring.

Also, a lot of people really don’t understand that pitchers are creatures of habit and like a routine. Why would throw your Thursday/Friday starter on a Wednesday whenever the midweek guys have been throwing Tuesday/Wednesday all season long? Makes no sense to switch up the rotation to win 1 or 2 games. Keep the rotation status quo and keep these guys in their rhythm for Regionals and Super Regionals. Those series start on Thursday/Friday, not on a Tuesday/Wednesday. It’s called being a manager and Tony and Frank are superb at it.

You realize we have zero to gain at this point. We basically just need to avoid injury. This tournament before the tournament has always struck me as dumb

It was Tennessee's first game and only Snead. KC and Russell looked capable of pitching in the SEC
That’s the way it is. These midweek guys are there for a reason, to win the midweek games and develop into helping us against SEC competition down the road. This is Russell’s first action since being injured early in the season. Basically a rehab assignment for him. He is a future first round pick according to a lot of scouts. Snead has been pitching against SEC competition all year so of course he is going to look the part. Zander was strictly a midweek guy and now he is helping us win SEC games. Some guys come in right out of high school ready for the big time while others need coaching and development.

Jacob deGrom was a career 4-5 pitcher with a 4.44 ERA at Stetson and he turned into one of the best MLB pitchers. But I guess these guys don’t have to start from somewhere now do they?

Yeah, if you think they all pitched great, good for you.
