In 1998 during the NC title game, my Dad fell asleep during the game after drinking a little too much and missed a good portion of it. I don't even remember that happening. I just remember parading around the front yard of our house, smack in GA county, singing rockytop from his shoulders.

But anyway, the next day he was so disappointed that he had missed parts of the game that he decided for himself that he had had enough. He hasn't had another drop of alcohol since.

Moral of the story: I like to think that UT football may have saved my father from this problem. What is to say that it can't do the same for others? So keep coming back here Cyclops. It can't do anything but help to have the support of VolNation. Be strong buddy

I wanna say this real quick, you guys praying for me, and keeping me in your thoughts mean a lot to me.. I'm cutting back, and for now that's the best I can do... Italians like pasta?

Hang in there man. Do you play music or anything? Guitar, piano, or something? That helped me stay away from it

Very sad to hear the news, my thoughts are with you and your family.

I was wondering where this thread was. I remember reading it awhile back. Hated to see the news knowing that he was on here struggling with addiction just months before.

Pretty sad reading this thread now. I didn't interact with him much that I remember.

It's reading threads like this and about how a person is struggling that gives me empathy towards those battling addictions. In the past it was too easy to throw out judgment and an attitude of "they did it to themselves". Well, even if part of it is true, Cyclops seemed like a good guy at heart trying to get his life on track.

For some of us who have been lucky enough to not have to live with someone dealing with this struggle, this thread really offers a rare glimpse into just how real of a struggle it is.

Anyone who suspects that they may have a problem with addiction should read this thread and let it sink in.
