I am so sick and tired of the negativity and all the prognosticators of doom calling my school bad. I know they will come out with the pride, heart and determination of TRUE VOLUNTEERS in 3 days. I can't wait. All you who wish to be negative enjoy this while you can. Because your time is running out!

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!

Is anyone calling the school bad? Besides the usual suspects of Bammers, Dawgs, Gators, etc?

I get as much joy from being negative as I did watching the Vols flounder last year. Let's get one thing straight, doom is no longer prognosticated. Last year's season was doom.

It would be a sheer pleasure for me to get on this board and talk about the great things I think this football team is going to do. I am excited about the talent of the young linebackers and the experienced secondary.

I will have butterflies at kickoff, and will hope beyond all hope that the Vols surprise me with their play, but I must say that my excitement for this program is tempered with the fact that in EVERY big game the Vols play in this year the opposing team will be deeper and more talented at nearly every skill position. To me that is infuriating and unacceptable. Is it negative? Yes. Do I derive one ounce of pleasure in it? NO.

Sorry Lex, I disagree with your assertion about our depth. I know that talent we had last year and this year. The difference is that I think that this team will live up to the talent potential. I see a different team/staff than what I saw in November of last year.

No one wishes to be negative. There just hasn't been much lately to encourage positive attitudes.

BTW, I by no means am blinded by my love of the school/team. I just know that sometimes it takes a wake up call for all of us. I believe the program got their call and have answerd it.

IF Fulmer is 3-0 after the UF game I'll start to believe a little. Until then I'm glad it's football season but I feel about the way I've always imagined Vandy fans must feel in Late August.

No need to apologize for the disagreement. I want to believe the talent is there. I too see a different staff, but I don't see the talent that some others see. If it shows up, I will be more than happy to own up to my current assessment.

I look forward to it. :)

Exactly. It sounds much worse than last year to me. I've heard about a piss poor offensive line that doesn't do a good job of run or pass blocking. I've heard about wide receivers dropping a lot of passes. Last year we never heard about the wide receivers dropping passes in practices and scrimmages. We heard nothing except how great our wide receivers were right up until the point that they proved to all of us that in an actual game they couldn't catch a cold. I've heard about a lack of depth on the defensive line. I've heard about Ainge continuing to look shaky in practices and scrimmages, yet still being the best option available. When you combine those things with an unproven group of linebackers and a secondary that all of you seem to think is great despite the fact that it's basically the same group (minus the best player) that got shredded by even some mediocre passing teams last year, I'm concerned.

I've learned in life that some will never see positive. So as I stated in the original post. Enjoy your time. It is running out.

...and I've learned that most people let their emotions cloud their judgment. You are seeing improvement strictly because you want there to be improvement.

Those are some good points 423. I for one have made an effort to tone it down the past 2-3 weeks, although certain reports of poor performance in scrimmage have set me off a couple of times.

Hell, in the past few years, you'd hear nothing from practices and scrimmages other than "the defense looked great" or the "offense looks fantastic". Even those statements don't really tell you anything because maybe your defense looked great because you offense played like crap, or your offense dominated because your defense sucked. You usually can't tell a whole lot until you actually line up against another team's players. However, dropped balls by wide receivers in practices and scrimmages are usually just indications that your wide receivers are terrible, particularly when that was the wide receiver corps' MO last year too.

No sir. I don't feel I think. I think it is the other way around. I think there are way too many that have let the emotions of last year cloud thier judgement. These kids who are on this team were some of the most highly recruited players in the nation. They overachieved 2 years ago and underachieved last year. They did not IMO forget how to play the game. I think they lost focus and played lazy and without fire and discipline and the coaches did the same. It think the program as a whole got the wake up call needed.

So, which of the following observations do you dispute?

It sounds much worse than last year to me. I've heard about a piss poor offensive line that doesn't do a good job of run or pass blocking. I've heard about wide receivers dropping a lot of passes. Last year we never heard about the wide receivers dropping passes in practices and scrimmages.
