Are we really going to do this EVERY time we lose? Are you going to get on here every time the Vols lose and whine, b$&@%, and moan and demand that coaches be fired and scholarships be revoked? Honestly, it makes us as a fanbase look pathetic. We sound like Kitty (Kentucky) basketball fans and Slimy Reptile football fans.

It is no secret that this loss is going to hurt for a while. However, whining about it isn't going to make our team better. Yanking Skylar's scholarship isn't going to help us win. Firing the man who resurrected Tennessee basketball is surely not going to help either. We have no power over what happens with our team, so we must leave it to Coach Pearl (and no one else, mind you) and the staff to take that team back to the gym and make the next practices before the next game absolute HELL in regards to overall toughness, defense, outside shooting, and free throws. The season is NOT over yet. No need to pack it in.

Until the season ends, or until Hamilton decides to make a move, I don't want to hear anymore whining and crying. We've got more games to play. We are Tennessee.

Being happy with average will make you average. The way I see it, if the fanbase is not annoyed and pissed off by a loss that should be a Win, then Tennessee basketball is back to 2003.

This plus the nicknames for other schools. He even made one up for UAB for crying out loud.

Not the way I see it. We have a lot of issues right now, but we have time to fix them. Getting pissed off and annoyed may be a natural reaction in the first few minutes of the game, but hours, days, and weeks after the fact is just plain ridiculous. We need to move on. That's my point.

Personally, I won't feel any different about Bruce Pearl after a win. My conclusion, based on his entire coaching tenure, is that our current team's attributes are par for the course. Many of which are unacceptable at the college level.

Yes, Bruce Pearl brought the UT basketball program some long awaited success.
Yes, the right hire could build upon Bruce's recent foundation and take the program to new heights.

With Bruce, we are guaranteed to have exactly what we've been experiencing:
- We'll soar to pretty decent successes, hit the immovable glass ceiling, flutter and fall a little bit.
- Repeat process until the act becomes stale, recruits catch on, and we fire him anyway. (see Fulmer)

Considering that the immovable glass ceiling got shattered last year, I would beg to differ.

So, we should be ok with the fact that we keep losing games on crappy last possessions?

No. I am saying that while we should be frustrated, there comes a time when we need to take a step back and think about what we say before we say it. We also need to understand that the team has time (although not much) to correct mistakes and go through a series of serious gut-checks before the next game. Also, the constant blubbering over a loss is getting embarrassing. Be frustrated, but have a short memory.

This makes sense if you're actually on the team. This is idiocy if you're trying to objectively evaluate what's going on.

Can we all at least agree that Pearl and his staff are totally inept at coaching last shot situations?

This applies to fans as well. The more you hold on to bad memories from the more the anger and frustration will take its toll on you. For example, I remember the football game against the Enemy back in 2009, when "Fat@$$" Cody blocked those two field goals. We know that both of those, if we had had our way, would have won the game. I literally wanted to puke afterward. But two hours later, I was over it, and you could probably say that it was because I took solace in the fact that Cody will never get that lucky again.

Back to your statement, they may be inept right now, but they have time to become familiar, and patience is a virtue.

That's really the issue, here. How can any of us hope to measure up and and even be in the same neighborhood of fandom greatness?

Pearl and his staff have had over half a decade to "become familiar" with end of game situations, and they still suck at them. At this point it's idiocy to think they're going to get any better. We're well into the definition of insanity at this point.

Glad you got over the 2009 Alabama game so easily. FO and DIAF, you GDAH. PO. IMO JMO.

I'll be the first to admit that my memory fails me at times. Has this been an issue in years past? I don't remember it being a problem before this season.

It hasn't been as stark a problem in years past, but probably just because it hasn't come down to the last shot as often as it has this year. We used to just win, so it didn't matter. Now that it does, it's clear we have no idea what the hell to do. It doesn't matter whether we're tied, down one, down two, or whatever, you can pretty much pencil in that we'll jack up a bad three as time expires.

It wasn't a problem when Tyler Smith hit winning shots against Ole Miss and Memphis, nor Lofton on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, we have a group now who just doesn't have that mental make up that allows them to be successful under pressure.

I can think of game winners by Lofton, Smith, Hopson, and Bradshaw. Maybe Jajuan and CJ as well?

I think a majority of the frustration (especially for me) stems from the fact that this may be our last shot at success for 2-3 years. Even without the sanctions, our roster is looking like it will be woefully incompetent next year. We're losing Goins, Williams, Fields, Bone, and Pearl, which ideally would give us an opportunity to update our roster. However, it's become increasingly likely that we will only add one recruit next year (Kevin Ware). Throw in the upcoming sanctions, and we've dug ourselves a hole of unpreparedness next year. Pearl has had ample opportunity to build a legitimate program here. He's failed.

Here's a thought exercise: what would the Bruce Pearl era at UT look like if Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith hadn't already been on the roster when he arrived? Because Pearl hasn't been able to recruit anybody who could shoot like either of them in the half a decade that has passed since then.

We "have a group who just doesn't have that mental make up" now because Pearl hasn't been able to recruit one legitimate shooter since he's been in Knoxville.

Seems to have worked out just fine last year. And shooters like Lofton don't grow on trees. If he's the standard for what is expected, then we won't ever be satisfied.
