IMDb highest rated movies...

Didn't scan all 250 but it seems like a pretty good list.

I'm not a fan of The Lord of the Rings movies so I would have had them lower and would have had The Green Mile higher.

I've seen 8 of the top 10. Fight Club at 10 is crazy.

Fight Club is one of those movies that I didn't like the first time I saw it, when I was relatively young. However, the older I get, the better it gets. It's an incredible movie.

EVERYBODY loves Fight Club. I've never seen it

Pulp Fiction at 5 and Inception at 13 are both too high imo. Both are watchable, but not in the same league as the others on the list.

Hmmm I have seen 19 of the top 20.

I don't agree with the list at all, but it's purely subjective. Although Shawshank is definitely top 10. As much as I love Christopher Nolan, Dark Knight at 4 and Inception at 13 is hard to justify. Most of the top 25 is hard to justify.

I've seen 20/25. Only ones that I don't think belong are the LotR movies (maybe I or II belongs) and Inception, though it is a pretty good movie.

I've seen 6 of the top ten.

Can't argue much about Shawshank, I could watch that movie over and over.

Pulp fiction so high because of what it did for the industry obviously.

I think Dark Knight is too high, and so is Inception. Otherwise can't argue too much.

This sort of thing is awfully subjective. (not even counting digging down into what kind of movies do/don't bring out the most people that would vote on a site about such things)

#1 on Maxim's Hot 100 list for 2013 was Miley Cyrus though there are a gazillion guys out there that wouldn't have her in their top 50. (or even top 100 at all)

I think Inception is about right. I've seen 13/15. I would't agree with some, but as most have stated, it's subjective.

I didn't like Pulp Fiction

Yep, I do say. :)

Not saying anyone here but some people assign more than a little weight to such things. In the advanced form it's often called "polling" and people will run with it all over the place. (Still, I get where you're coming from in that most people tend to "get" the subjectivity angle)

And clearly the top 20 or so are suffering from recency bias.

It's a cumulative poll with data gathered since the site's inception. Therefore, there should be no recency bias. They didn't just one day say, "hey, let's pick our top 250 movies". These are ranked based on ratings from people who watch the movies.

Also, not to mention the fact that 4 of the top 10 movies were made before 1975.

I see your point and it may be valid. However, I will not deviate from my point which I made after perusing the list for about 15 seconds and making a snap judgment.

Agree 220%. Definitely a good super hero movie, but I would rate it 6.5/10.

I honestly got so bored when I saw it the first time. Nolan is grossly overrated. He made some solid movies, but it's getting a little ridiculous.

Inception was a steaming pile of crap and a rip off of other ideas passed off as this amazingly original concept.

Don't understand the Fight Club haters - it's easily one of the most original movies ever made - the many "easter eggs" hidden throughout the film keep you coming back. To each his own I guess.
