I'm just over 30 years old but where are the legit top rated films? Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz & Citizen kane

Now out of the top 10 listed I haven't seen The Godfather 1 or 2., 12 Angry Men, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (I do own the Trilogy on Blu-ray but haven't got around to watching them.) and Fight Club and I've only seen part of Pulp Fiction.

I'm not a big fan of the LOTR series, honestly. I'm surprised by its intrigue to so many people.

That's way too high for Inception. Too low for Forrest Gump, imo.

'94 wasn't a bad year for movies. Gump, Shawshank, Pulp Fiction, and Dumb and Dumber just to name a few.

Most comics are political and social commentary. Not sure the point.

But it is overrated.

I'm talking about blockbuster movies based on comics, not comics. Besides the Watchmen and V for Vendetta (which aren't meant for the masses), I can't think of single comic book movie that had so much depth to it. I mean, yeah the XMen are a parrallel to the civil rights movement, but that was 50 years. TDK was a veiled discussion on NSA wiretapping, "people fear what they don't understand", the game theory that plays out with the bombs on the boats, etc.

Don't understand the Fight Club haters - it's easily one of the most original movies ever made - the many "easter eggs" hidden throughout the film keep you coming back. To each his own I guess.

I wasn't hating just because I don't see it in the Top 10 of any great movie list. This list is dominated by more recent movies....IMDb isn't exactly the AFI in its level of critique. Still a good list of movies.

Surprised by The Dark Knight hate in this thread.

I thought it was a very solid movie. Sure, it had some holes, but I watched it wanting to hate it. Everyone had talked it up so much that I prepared to be disappointed, and I was not at all.

American History X should have been higher. Inception shouldn't have made the list.

I'm just glad that Transformers and The Fast and the Furious didn't make it.

And those 3 are in my ten favorite movies of all time

It's amazing how they all came out 4 or 5 months apart

I thought it is a pretty accurat list considering its voted my hundreds of thousands of user reviews instead of a couple hot shot movie critics. Movies are all opinion based, but this seems like the most just and accurate list you could possibly make with the sample size.

I have this research project in my history of film class and I have to watch a Pre 1968 movie and I chose 12 angry men. Excited to see how that turns out. I heard they film the entire movie in one room and it's all dialogue

If you believe people vote with their wallet, then inflation adjusted earnings is your list.

It's not so much hating as it is recognizing that it was a mediocre movie.

In what way? I hear people say it is overrated. Do they just vaguely mean they didn't enjoy it? What is mediocre about this production? It was a unique project in a lot of ways.
