IIRC the late 90’s was “. SMOKEY is on the Prrrrowwllll….. Aruuuuuughhhhaaaah!” It didn’t last long , maybe 98-2001.Anyone remember the “Sic ‘em Smokey” they would play over the PA with the Smokey growl? When did they stop that? I remember it from the 90s. That would be another cool nostalgic thing to bring back and change it to a howl/bay.
Y'all are just trying any way possible to rationalize losing 25-30k seats just so you don't have to sit on a bleacher for 3-4 hrs a week in the fall. We don't need money from chairbacks (even though the premium price of the seats wouldn't bring in more because you'll have way less seats) to fund Neyland Renovations. Most has been funded anyway.
agreedI personally don’t give a f*** about capacity numbers, they’re all fake anyways. Neyland is in reality already under 100k. I’m well over 6 ft tall, sitting in those bleacher’s is god awful. I have to angle sideways when I sit to prevent digging all in the person in front of me, then you’ve got some 350 pound person taking up 75% of your 3 inch section of bleacher
I’d be perfectly fine ripping out the bleachers for chairbacks, put capacity in the 80-85k range. It would still be plenty loud and much better experience for everyone.
This is way outside the box. Build some large parking lots on the south side of the river. Then build a chair lift from the parking area that spans across the river to the top of the Ramp!

Sorry that you're tall but I don't think the majority would agree. It's kind of a selling point/staple of Neyland. I go there for the atmosphere. Any way to improve or maintain that is what I want. I can sit on the couch at home and be comfortable.I personally don’t give a f*** about capacity numbers, they’re all fake anyways. Neyland is in reality already under 100k. This is true. The capacity number isn’t as big of a deal as it used to be (mainly bragging rights anyways) and a more modern stadium seems to be more desired around the countryYou don’t have to agree. Just look around at what’s going on, the stadium experience is now competing with the home experience. We literally just ripped out a few thousand seats. Stadiums around the country are adding light shows, more luxurious seating areas or the standing area/sports bar type areas. Love it or hate it, but the days of bragging about capacity numbers are over. And it really isn’t an either or choice, you can have better seating and still maintain a loud/great atmosphere. Sorry that pretending our stadium holds over 100k is so important to you, but in reality we’re already below that number.
What improvements would you like to see come to Neyland in the future?
A few that come to mind:
- seat/section indicators in the stadium (too many people have trouble finding their seat or end up in the wrong section once inside)
- bathroom improvements
- sound system
So you have the inside scoop on stadium capacity. Ok. And y'all have been saying that for years yet we had like 5 sellouts this year which disproves that claim. Lowering capacity by 15-20k drastically changes the environment of the game. You can pretend like it doesn't but it does. You don’t have to agree. It’s been acknowledged that the actual capacity has been under 100k for awhile. I don’t think there’s any danger of 15-20k seats disappearing, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see 5,000 seats taken away as upgrades take place. So you have the inside scoop on stadium capacity. Ok.
