Improvements you'd like to see to Neyland

Fix concessions and bathrooms. That shat is all high school stadium. Bad 80's high school stadium

Anyone remember the “Sic ‘em Smokey” they would play over the PA with the Smokey growl? When did they stop that? I remember it from the 90s. That would be another cool nostalgic thing to bring back and change it to a howl/bay.
IIRC the late 90’s was “. SMOKEY is on the Prrrrowwllll….. Aruuuuuughhhhaaaah!” It didn’t last long , maybe 98-2001.

“Sic em Smokey “ was more recent , Lyle Allen years I believe .

I could be wrong but probably not , I’m an encyclopedia of useless info. I said that to say this though , both were embarrassing.

I wsnt the peanuts and soda venders back. Especially if they also have beer. Those guys/gals eased the lines at the concessions and allowed everyone to see more of the game.

An added bonus is it helps some kid that needs the money and they build memories and contacts in the VFL community.

Y'all are just trying any way possible to rationalize losing 25-30k seats just so you don't have to sit on a bleacher for 3-4 hrs a week in the fall. We don't need money from chairbacks (even though the premium price of the seats wouldn't bring in more because you'll have way less seats) to fund Neyland Renovations. Most has been funded anyway.

I personally don’t give a f*** about capacity numbers, they’re all fake anyways. Neyland is in reality already under 100k. I’m well over 6 ft tall, sitting in those bleacher’s is god awful. I have to angle sideways when I sit to prevent digging all in the person in front of me, then you’ve got some 350 pound person taking up 75% of your 3 inch section of bleacher 😂
I’d be perfectly fine ripping out the bleachers for chairbacks, put capacity in the 80-85k range. It would still be plenty loud and much better experience for everyone.

This is way outside the box. Build some large parking lots on the south side of the river. Then build a chair lift from the parking area that spans across the river to the top of the Ramp!

You know, out of this whole thread that may be the best recommendation. Even if the chair lift turns out to be too expensive a walking bridge or even a ferry would be nice. Honestly, Knoxville could do like Chattanooga. Chattanooga turned the other side of the river into a big green space with a carousel and everything with the Walnut Street walking bridge connecting the two together. The could have a big green space for tailgating similar to the Grove at Ole Miss surrounded by parking garages. Docks for the Vol Navy. It could be awesome.

Hover Crafts that take you from your parking spot to your seats while dispensing beer along the way.

I lived in a house across the river during college and frequently walked across the railroad bridge on game day. It's amazing we never had a Stand By Me situation.

The east and south sides need serious renovations, all the way around. It pisses me off that they keep doing things to the west side and completely ignore the east and south.

Sorry that you're tall but I don't think the majority would agree. It's kind of a selling point/staple of Neyland. I go there for the atmosphere. Any way to improve or maintain that is what I want. I can sit on the couch at home and be comfortable.

This is an oldie but it would be fun to use on Georgia. We could ring the top of the stadium with mirrors.

As far as WIFI, that is my number 1 request. But surprisingly, I found that in our normal seats in QQ, getting any cell signal was near impossible, but at the Missouri game I sat in X1 and got cell reception all game until I moved to QQ with my friends for the end, then, no cell. But I guess like anything else, people in the upper deck are second class citizens to UT, since the lower deck is the big money people

You don’t have to agree. Just look around at what’s going on, the stadium experience is now competing with the home experience. We literally just ripped out a few thousand seats. Stadiums around the country are adding light shows, more luxurious seating areas or the standing area/sports bar type areas. Love it or hate it, but the days of bragging about capacity numbers are over. And it really isn’t an either or choice, you can have better seating and still maintain a loud/great atmosphere. Sorry that pretending our stadium holds over 100k is so important to you, but in reality we’re already below that number.

This is true. The capacity number isn’t as big of a deal as it used to be (mainly bragging rights anyways) and a more modern stadium seems to be more desired around the country

What improvements would you like to see come to Neyland in the future?

A few that come to mind:
- seat/section indicators in the stadium (too many people have trouble finding their seat or end up in the wrong section once inside)
- bathroom improvements
- sound system

Whatever renovations they do to the stadium please do it in a way that pays homage to the oldest sections of the stadium. You are reminded of so much history walking around that amazing piece of history.

So you have the inside scoop on stadium capacity. Ok. And y'all have been saying that for years yet we had like 5 sellouts this year which disproves that claim. Lowering capacity by 15-20k drastically changes the environment of the game. You can pretend like it doesn't but it does.

It’s been acknowledged that the actual capacity has been under 100k for awhile. I don’t think there’s any danger of 15-20k seats disappearing, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see 5,000 seats taken away as upgrades take place.

It isn’t an “inside scoop”, it’s literally old news. We are in reality under 100k fans. And what claim has been disproven?
Also, losing seats doesn’t mean lesser or bad environment. Georgia claims to hold 92 thousand, probably 80 something thousand in reality. They sure don’t seem to have a lesser or quiet environment. Arrowhead stadium is wide regarded as one of the loudest stadiums in football, capacity is 76 thousand. Neyland would still be plenty loud and rowdy, it would just be a much more enjoyable experience as well.
